Hello all,
My first post here...I'm really glad that I found this forum!:-worship
After some inactive years (due to a major reconstruction job at my house) I managed recently to put up once again my sat system. As you can see from my profile,it's a modest/old line of components but that's all I could get in a region where satellite receiving was an expensive sport a while ago.
Thus been said,I encountered a problem with the plastic LNB clamp:it presents some serious cracks on the lower side of the 40 mm neck.I used some Epoxy to put the pieces on place and now it holds pretty well but I know that this is only a temporary solution...I'd like to replace it with a new one.
The only store I found is at
_http://www.satellitesuperstore.com/dishes-motors2.htm
(the item is somewhere at half page).
My question is:does somebody know another source for this (rather obsolete) part?
The price asked on satellitesuperstore.com is unexpectedly high (as compared to,say,a Titanium LN:cool:...not that I'm cheap but....or maybe I have a wrong picture?
Aside of that, because of my prior unpleasant experiences with orders coming from UK (the local customs are playing havoc here),I'd prefer another (from continental Europe or US) dealer to work with (no pun intended).
My second problem is regarding the so-called "skew" of a LNB.
My dish is motorised (five years ago,I managed to get everything having a fair footprint in my area, between 18W and 36E) and I read somewhere on this board that on motorised dishes you don't need to take the skew angle into account but align the LNB on 90 degrees with the horizontal dish' axis.Is that true?

Thank you very much from your time and help!
Best regards,
Le Basseur

Hello!
what,is the exactly type,or part number,of the chapparal item, you looking for?
chapparal,closed in europe every Head quatar,that means,no bisness here,when you order,something,from overseas,you dont have,warenty @ all..

for skew controlling you need a polarizer,on between the lnb,and your dish, for example the hirschmann csp 1210 that i have, hard to get,out of production long time ago!
to problem,on most satelite reveivers yo got on the market, you can save, and store, the skew, only one time, for the curent satelite, and not for the, curent transponder!

Someone else posted this US site here a few weeks ago. Your feed clamp is $13.99 here - futurevisionsat.com/catalog/item/691952/1783035.htm

Your assumptions on skew are correct for most conditions.

Hello Turok,
Thanks for your fast reply!:)

I think there's a misunderstanding...I'm not looking for a Chapparal part but Channel Master.
It looks like this:

Again,a little confusion:AFAIK,the LNB I use doesn't need the device you mentioned.I referred to the FIXED mounting position of the LNB itself.
Again,thank you!

Usually,I hate asking silly questions...can you be more specific, please? What do you mean by "most conditions"?

on the dish i presume you are using the channel master feed horn on the dish then the c120 lnb will just fit on with the spacers provided with the lnb feed clamp and you can just position it straight as the polar mount or motor on the dish will tilt the dish as it moves on the arc

Wod,
Thanks for your reply!

Again,a little confusion here:unfortunately,I DON'T have a LNB/feedhorn tandem as I bought my ChannelMaster dish second-hand (I think I'm the fourth owner:-doh2!).The dish came with an ancient Fuba LNC and a modest feedhorn of an unknown provenience. For some reason, the last proved to be defective no matter what I tried (replaced the LNC,tried another dish, etc) so I had to give up and "upgrade" with a MTI LNB.
Therefore,it's the LNB's skew angle what I asked about.
Anyway, the question remains the same regarding some other specific details, unknown by a newbie like me but well-known to most of the "afficionados" on this board.
My dish is located at:
45:33:33:86 North
18:40:03:85 East
According to the book,I aimed the "0" (highest elevation) polarmount's position to Astra @19,2E.For other satellites on both curve's ends,do I have to tilt the MTI LNB or can I align it by 90 degrees regarding to Astra's horizontal axis?
(I'm aware it might be a "trial-and-error" procedure in order to get the best of it but I sincerely hope that someone else has a more pertinent explanation and experience...simply because my dish's placement makes a PITA any repetitive intervention).
Thanks!:)

Best regards,

WOD has answered your question, you fit the LNB as you have described, there is no need to tilt the LNB to account for skew.

If this is not clear to you perhaps can you give more details.

yes align it up on astra 19east and then leave the lnb with no skew so central in the lnb holder as the polar mount tilts the dish as it moves giving the perception of the lnb being skewed

In theory yes you don't need to skew the LNB as the polarmount moves according to the clarke belt, but in reality skew needs to be aligned and peaked at some sats.

My suggestion to you is to peak the dish at 28.2 East, NOT Eurobird.

Peak the skew here for your LNB, when you have done it you will not lose much signal on other sats as the 28.2 East is the most important as this satellite got some odd polarization offset compared to the others.

But you are right, what you are after is a polarizer, you can find one on Ebay, look for Hirschmann CSP1210 or Chaparral Omni, don't get a ferrite polarizer like IRTE or SMW as they don't work good with digital broadcast and does make it even worse.
