Hi racingclub,

(What do you race F5000??)

Nice one! Saves having to swap between Mary's download and newcamd k*y* download.
Also saves me having to revive my long winded comparison and editing of k*y files.

73 & happy dreaming.

So, during my Sunday half hour spare time, I should ditch Zeus and get Gemini-ed?!

While I'm logged in , let me repeat a sentiment I might have uttered over holiday. This is a great forum and it is 100% positive. Unlike other forums, no one is grunting at others and no one is trying to get one up. We all know who the heros are and I am grateful for all I learnt in 3 months, after those first 7 days of dreambox panic in Oct. The point is, as well, a simple question from someone whose DB arrived yesterday, can make you think and learn. Heros and newbies alike are valuable.

I dip into other forums and award the best moment of 2004 to the "I have a dreambox" German forum, which comes close for being as friendly (99% compared to this 100%). Someone, annoyed by a smart answer to his question, sent a "smilie" of a single finger stuck up and invoked the wrath of moderators and others alike and both he and the provoker got the message "Calm thyselves down. No stinkfingers here." (German still has thou thee and thy).

I have to agree, the I have a dreambox forum is a nice one. I have been there from the second day I had my dreambox as I buggered it up, and they calmed me down. At the time only Rolf had a 7000 in this forum, and even he didn't know all the issues.

But for overall quality of a forum this one must be the best. Maybe when it comes to technical stuff a site like them might have the edge, but overall quality of people and moderators on satellites.co.uk cannot be topped!

Loving the stable nature of Gemini so far - starting to think that Zeus had serious M$ style feature bloat/issues

Don't plan to go back to Hydra even when its all fixed.

I'd def recommend a play with it :D

This is an excellent forum keep up the good work fellas as it is actually productive and helps others rather than being a grumble club for the select few that so many forums in Oz are.

While we are blowing the Gemini trumpet has anybody else noticed what happens when you are streaming using vlc. Try changing channels in Zeus and then try the same in Gemini. My Hydra used to just freeze the picture. I had to close vlc and then click the vpid again. Now in Gemini the picture changes in vlc automatically. Try it.

Got up 15 mins early to install Gemini and it was quick and easy.
I didnt have to loop the loop to clear channels:
Just started by downloading Newcamd only (can add others later if needed)
then downloaded Newcamd keys, (Marys seem old. and Newcamd keys seem appropriate for Newcamd).
rebooted and everything cleared that should clear.
Havnt tried all features so wont blow any trumpets yet.
It will be already better if it dcesnt freeze during fast scroll of channels.
Havnt found where to ship /var to usb yet tho no doubt its there.
I WILL set up multiboot one day but since I havnt had an image corrupt since that first week of panic, no pressure to do so.

I have used the Gemini, and found it to be not a bad image. But I went back to the SF image as it seems better with the motor...But next time I need to change I will try it again.

Having done this (see other thread) to retrieve DeePlus, I was left wondering why the steps were needed -- because I would sure not like to have to remember it all every time there is a key change. There is a clue in another thread - about the emergency Zeus backup - mentioning that mary has gone walkies. I wonder if the steps were just a clean way to switch from Mary to e.g. Byksat.
Gemini is still a bit fishy, my Mii doesnt work with it.

btw
On hydra site, there is a post advising a download of unzipped new CP to /var/tmp and then using addon manager to install new CP and then recover features. Anyone done this?
I darent ask questions on that site because if you stray outside their nervous boundaries, they bawl at you in bold capital letters, whereas here the post gets deleted and there is a gentle mention why.

Bottom line is, all things considered, I prefer zeus to gemini

Zeus control panel up and running - when you first replace it doesn't have any access to k*ys but if update (it now works) everything is back.

I prefer Zeus - well everyone has to have a favourite.

Yeah, I put on the new Zeus CP, no probs. Unzip it first, or it won't work.

After that, as GB says, do another CP update via Internet. Everything fine. New menu items then listed.

Don't subsequently go back and try to remove the 'addon' though! LOL.

SatInd report Mary to be 'on holiday'.

I find NewcamD V5.27 to produce mini-freezes on Taqs. Anyone else get this?

SCAM 2.4 is fine, so I'm with that ATM.

Also, Taqs opening for me, but not much else (Discovery etc.)

I fully expect this to be keys, but I'm too busy and too lazy to go investigate and hunt down a fix right now!

I got the gemini with mary's keys on it, and everything works ok, incl. Sirius and Taq without freezing. Even the motor sort of got used to it. Very good indeed.
