A depressing topic, as I've been agonising over this one for a while. Common sense got the better of me as you can see by the fact that I didn't...

Not even worth a tenner. That's nuts.

Good sturdy positioner for a tenner, but it seems quite sad that nobody wanted the old beast even for that. :(

This receiver was always advertised on the back of What Sat magazine, the list of what it was capable of covered the whole back page, it seemed well built and solid, I don't recall anyone owning one who complained of its performance, and durability, I wonder if the same will be said of the newer boxes in 10 years time.

Have to admit I always wanted one - they were the king of receivers.

I owned both the Monterey 40 and 140 way back in early 90's, one thing that i didn't like was that it needed a high C/N input to get the same clear nice picture as a PLL based RF-tuner.

However with very high S/N the Chaparral performed better than the PLL tuner that was based in Echostars among others, it performed good on my 3 meter dish.

Echostar for picture quality and the Chaparral for features and connectivity.

Chaparral was the best quality, solid built.

Too bad Chaparral stopped developing these receivers, these things doesn't exist in the digital world.

They are built like tanks 3 inches by 17inches by 14.9 inches 17 pounds in weight of sheer satellite reciever muscle. And a display that shows the dish tracking the satellite arc, awesome!

Not much use anymore except as a positioner for a AZ/EL motorized mount.

That's why people don't pay more than £10 for it these days if you are lucky.

It's a shame really, digital all killed it.

I am not giving the receiver away as a gift!

Shipping as a gift reduces the Possibility of incurring extra charges.
