I was reading on Toes about a pci to pcmcia adaptor which is available on special offer at Maplin (UK electronics chain) for 7.99 UKP. I picked one up yesterday although I haven't had time to install it yet but at the asking price, I thought it well worthy of mention. The Maplin code is A71CB and it is called "pci wireless network card".

Update - installed the PCI card in my desktop and let XP choose the driver. Installed the UCAS software and very quickly updated my MR to V1.16. For eight quid, I would say that was a result! No more tedium of fun cards for me, yipee!!

In good Christmas panto style - oh no it's not! If you go to maplin.co.uk and do a search on part number A71CB, it's marked "was 19.99UKP, save 12UKP" making it the 7.99UKP that I paid last week. I think in the Maplin shop it said the reduced price was until 24/12 but I'm not certain about that date. It's a snip at less than 8 quid though; I had my MR upgraded to 1.161 yesterday in about a minute (and watching the footy).

(Sorry bazwad, you beat me to it!)

I don't honestly know, I haven't had MRV files on my MR. The UCAS loader application file can be downloaded from matrixcam.com. You're basically following the laptop method that you can find there.

I just followed the instructions here exactly
http://www.matrixcam.com/laptop.htm
so used loader 2.1 as per the instructions.

At step 17 you choose the MR update file you wish to load eg MR117.upd. It all worked first time for me. The PCI cards are now back up to 20 quid though.

On offer again at Maplin, if you missed them last time around, at 7.98UKP! Code A71CB. Says "while stock lasts" so they may be being discontinued.

Excuse my ignorance, but does this become the equivalent of a CAS interface/programmer ?

It's an alternative to the CAS; probably better described in simple terms as the equivalent of MR flashing by laptop (with a desktop). They're in the "when they're gone, they're gone" offer so if you're thinking about it, best to move sharpish!

It is not quite a full alternative to the CAS or CAS2, as it cannot repair a CAM, but it is certainly a much easier way to flash a CAM

Thanks Norm & Rolw,

I was thinking more of if I update my MR to Mrev, could I use it (or a laptop) to revert back to MR if I have problems ??

Yes it will enable MRev to be flashed back to MR if need be.
