I don't know if this is the correct place to ask this question, but here goes.

How come we almost never see any circular polarization any more, but only linear here in Europe? I know that the old Marco Polo (BSB - wasn't this moved over to 1W later?) sat used Right hand and the Nordic Tele-X sat (later renamed Sirius on 5E, before it became obsolete) used Left hand polarization. Had one of these old flat BSB dishes 7 years ago, and to use the other type of polarization, you had to open it up and turn the metal plate (inside) upside down.

I have also seen that some C-band sat's uses circular polarization instead of linear.

Are there any quality differences between the two modes of transmission and why did linear polarization survive?

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

It all boils down to cost of the equipment at the receiving end.

A different feedhorn, or additional dielectric plate adds a few cents to the total.
