Tous deux sont tombés amoureux, au grand désespoir d’Électre, qui rêve de conquérir le cœur du jeune prince. Pris dans une féroce tempête, Idoménée promet au dieu Neptune qu’il sacrifiera le premier homme qu’il verra à terre s’il échappe au naufrage. Quand il arrive à bon port, c'est Idamante, son propre fils, qui s'avance pour l’accueillir…

Caught in a fierce storm, Idomeneus promises the god Neptune that he will sacrifice the first man he sees on land if he escapes the shipwreck. Run the French text through Google Translate and compare them. Yes the translation is decent but computer translation of French-to-English and vice versa has been good for a long time. When an online translation of Japanese-to-English can produce something remotely understandable I'll be impressed ;)
