Hi mate,

Sorry to dissappoint you I have been trying to get nilesat horizontal beams in the midlands with a 2.4m dish for weeks and was not able to pull in the appropriate signal quality needed. Have now given up as this fortec dish as given me so many problems. Friend of mine has a channel master 1.8 lets see if this one pulls in a better signal?

You are further North than me mate so the reports that I am getting is the signal will drop off for Manchester, Good luck mate.

Keano, what instrument are you using to set the dish? And is the invacom lnb single or quad?

kimbo keep us posted how you get on.

Its amazing just how much the signal drops off the further North in the UK you go.
Some guys in the South of UK have the H beam on just a 1.2 dish.

I can get 11919H OK on my dish and can watch Baghdad TV no problem.

The one I want is 11996H this is OK when skies are clear but like today and the last few days its been very overcast and damp.

Just done a scan of 7.0w and found 333 services, last week when it was clear I did a scan at about 22.30 and found 505 services.
So you can see the difference.
The most the 1.5mtr dish ever got was 203 services.

When I scan it does find channels on 11966H but its just 1% to weak to watch.

M8 big difference between CM and fortec star, fortec star dishes are tempting at the price but they have to be fitted perfect if not then it wont be any good what so ever.

@TJExcalibur m8 I replaced the cable today with pf125 and it has made a slight difference in the stability of 11919H.

m8 just posted when you wrote this.

I am using my old Technomate 5500 and small TV in garden to find 7.0w.

I am using a long channel master feedhorn and invacom c120 single.

This is the best combination I have tried.

I have the matched feedhorn but that performs less then this one.

See pictures.

Just wondering what type of meter you were using aswell. As the skew on the lnb is vital too. From what i have seen the quad c120 lnbs are the best for fringe reception. Mine came from a dish in Cyprus that was used for Astra 28.

Keano,
Sorry to hear results weren't impressive with the Andrew Feedhorn on your dish.
I've tried loads of LNBs with this feed and the Quad performs very much better than the single Invacom -on low band. I have never tried to pull in weak high band as you're trying to do. You may find a new quad will be better as LNBs, even Invacom, get a bit 'tired' after a couple of years.
Many times I found reversing the black rings gives significant gain improvement. The arrow pointing to antenna is reversed so it is pointing to LNB, move whole assembly away from dish.
The small Andrew feed in the last pics is tight back against the holder, so the focal length of the dish may be slightly long for the feed.
I guess you have tried changing skew, high band is very sensitive to skew errors. In the pic of the whole dish it looks like you have a tree or shrub in front of it, ??

Hi pal,

The tree as gone m8 apart from a small bit at the top.
Its also not in the line of sight for 7.0w.

timbo86 also mentioned in this thread a quad c120 is better, so might have to try that.

I can't seem to change the focal length because of that little rim the feedhorn sits in.

I also need to take dish down and rebuild it, because when I looked at likvid's pictures when he did his dish he built it on floor first then put it up, in my case because I was on my own i put the bottom bit on the mount first then put the top bit on then bolted it together.

Like I've said what makes it worse is that I only need 1% more to get a stable picture.
Last night at 21.00 I watched the rugby on sports 2 and never had a single glitch. Its just daytime when the weather is bad then it will drop off.

Thanks for everyones input on this and its a shame non of you are near me there would a been a pint or two waiting.

crossbones m8 I would love to have a dish that big but would need a big garden with no neighbours and live in South Wales .

m8 AFAIK no one lives near me.

I am just between Manchester and Wigan near a place called Leigh.

If you catch a flight from Liverpool Airport to Holland you may see my dish;).

The only guy who was near me was ouaqadouqou but he left a while back for Lagos.

I hoping on Friday to rope one of my neighbours in to help me put the dish on the mount once I have rebuilt it.

I have also ordered a quad c120 invacom.

When you painted your dish did you use a lead/metal free paint,

Yes m8 it was lead/metal free. It came from a company called plasti-kote and is the satin finish.

I used the same stuff on my 1.5mtr dish and my 1.1mtr dish.

I don't even know if I could remove the paint now, surely using paint remover would damage dish surface.
