This may be a strange question to ask, as im not exacly new to all this TV and Satellite caper but...

i was in B&Q today getting some coax to run to a second dish... and noticed that there is TV Coax and Satellite Coax???

ive never noticed this before, i studied both.... and after looking decided that its the same? or am i wrong??

oh and for the record i noticed something else thats wierd...

black cable is double the price of brown??? WTF!!
work that one out :)

TV cable is single screened and satellite cable is double screened in places like B&Q, in real terms, no professional installers use single screened for TV anymore, although they may use the cheaper aluminium foil screened cable.

You may find that the brown cable you mention is the single screened TV cable. I pay exactly the same for brown as I do black or white. :)

If you use 25m (and it is only single screened) for satellite IF signals, you are likely to get a lot of loss.

It doesn't need to, it shows you. It is the nastiest of the nasty coax cable, hardly any screening at all. Best thing to do with it is take it back I'm afraid..

This is what you need:

I believe RG6 cable can be slight overkill for home sat. Can be triple or quad screened.

There was a problem with RG6 cable being labelled as ct100 a few month back within Cobra Installations. Basikily all self employed people had to buy their cable.. ct100 is more expensive .. cobra bought rg6 and re labled it ct100.. it caused up roar thus having to stop.. some ct100 drums are now marked by suppliers to distinguis from the 2..

I would say ct100 is the better of the 2 but both are suitable for sat installs.. both cables are used by sky anyway :)

There is added confusion in that RG6 as sold in the UK is not good quality, certainly not of the same quality of CT100 or WF100, as it normally has aluminium foil and steel braid. RG6 as sold in the US is a high quality cable with all copper and normally a foam dialectric. :)

It'll be fine, it is after all only for a relatively short run, the attenuation per 100m is not hugely different from WF100 or CT100, it is more to do with durability.
