Hi m8s,

What is the coaxial cable you normally use for a decent satellite reception (assuming that i got my dish and lnbs right)?

I am currently using a 75ohm coaxial cable with 22v written on it. Also, can the N*tl cable be used for satellite?

Cheers.

Have a search on here, there was some discussion a few days ago on this.

Dunno about your NTL cable. Don't see why not, but it's cheap to buy new...

The site which STICK points to is better value Rabbit, as it has a copper screened foam dialectric cable for £21 per 100m, I find satcure a little high on many of their prices.

Rolf, regardless of cost what do you reckon is the best coax cable on the market performance-wise (lowest signal losses etc)? And where can it be sourced?

The best and lowest loss would be something like Webro WF233 with a loss of 15.6db at 2Ghz over 100m, mainly used for distribution runs though, as it is pretty unwieldly and requres special connectors. WF165 is somewhere in the middle, with a figure of 20db, but still pretty unwieldly.

I have never used anything over CT125 or WF125 for normal dish to receiver runs this has a loss of 24db at 2Ghz over 100m.

I would add that these cable are made to set standards, so probably any cable conforming to a particular standard will produce similar results.

I favour the foam dialectric cables as they are well protected against denting and snagging, also the best preserved cables I find on very old aerial installations tend to be the foam dialectric ones.

PS. I don't profess to be an expert on cable, but do know what works well for me. :)

Thanks M8s.

Tried the 2 set of coax (N*TL and the 75ohm 25v) but the signal (SNR) was the same on both.

Cheers

The name certainly looks like that may be the case, but I will say that they have a very good range if installation kit, think i might start a list in the links section, as we are pretty regularly getting asked for this stuff and a lot of the satellite specific e-tailers don't carry great ranges.

My only comments on that site would be that for the hobbyist more illustrations or pictures would be very helpful, as they may not allways know the name of the part they need.:) Also, the losss figures given on the coax are not for the satellite IF range and may be misleading to hobbyists.
