Hi guys , i got a Techwood TWP 4210 plasma screen and no tuner box , i was wondering if i can connect anything to it without the tuner like a sky box or similar . It has a LVDS-IN connection wich looks like dvi or hdmi , i'm not sure . Another thing is i don't have a remote and it looks like there's a infrared sensor on the screen , would any universal remote do it , i tried a couple but no luck . When i turn it on from the on-off button it stays in stand-by , any way to switch it on without the remote ? Thanks.

Please check item No. 5880039606 on eBay and contact the seller. They may sell remote too. Good luck!

If it has no onboard tuner it is basically a monitor and as such will need a sky or other digi box for imput or pc, or games console. The remote should be obtainable if the monitor is fairley new.

Yes, frund is correct. The remote will come with a tuner box.

yes, with main box missing that input must be high speed digital.

check what socket type looks like at: http://dvihdmicables.com/connectors.htm .

lvds is a slightly different format!

There are a few standalone analogue tv tuners with a hdmi output, and some (expensive) sat receivers also, don't know about Freeview ...

The missing bit is this: www.mastercare.co.uk} .

Unfortunately, having checked, socket 9 to the plasma panel is lvds, not hdmi!

At a guess, I'd say these techwood units are being sold off because they're not hd ready (ie, don't support hdcp).

My latest googeling revealed that is a samsung panel with cheap components and apparently the remote sensor is to controll the tuner box through the screen ? Odd . Others have said that it was made as pc screen originally and the connection between the screen and tuner is a DFP 26 pin cable , i dont know much about these cables , can i buy one anywhere ?
Is there a way to connect the dvls to a scart , vga or similar analogue connection ?
Thanks

Sounds like your screen is a PDP "Plasma Display Panel" and is designed to connect through the dedicated media box. The only options of connection to this display is by the media control box.

I've seen there are 2 boxes out there , one is a 4205 and the other 4210 , can anyone confirm if they will work with both pannels , Samsung and LG , and have the same connections or are diferent and you have to have the one for your pannel ? Cheers

If you follow spineys link you will notice that the link for the 4210 manual actually goes to a 4205 one.

One might safely assume from that that either a 4210 or 4205 dedicated tuner box will suffice for your model. BTW, why why wasn't the tuner included (thought those early panels always came with one).

If you got it from a retailer (as opposed to a bloke down the pub) - they might possibly still have your tuner box? unless they are keeping the tuner for the DVI or VGA outputs.

I'll be honest, I'd flog it and get a known HDCP compliant LCD with HDMI ins.

Hope I haven't upset you.:-ohmy

Have Fun.

Thanks for the reply , don't get upset that easy . I got it of a car boot , don't even know if it works but being cheap i thought it's worth a try to get a tuner box of fleebay and give it a go .
