AIUI, the guard interval means that by placing the transmissions from nearby transmitters slightly higher or lower than the one that you're listening to, it uses the weaker signals to enhance the main signal, as opposed to causing interference as would have happened in the analogue days. I think that this now avoids having to use completely different frequencies for the same channel throughout the country.

Have I grasped the concept correctly? If not, could someone please explain it in layman's terms, as the information on the internet has only served to confuse me even more!

Assuming that the same principle applies to DTT, how can the STB assign the weaker signals to the 800's in the EPG for the same channels?

Many thanks.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

It is a processing delay introduced within the receiver, allowing a any stray bits of important content that might be required to rebuild the full image. The content may have been delayed by terrain, buildings or cancelling out through interference from another transmitter.
