how hard is it to put new proccessor to motherboard,i have done this few years ago but is it the same way do you have this tin strip that goes over the cooling fan and etaches its self to the other side of the cooling fan if
i remember right you have to use a screw driver to pull the tin strip over the pin or has things changed over the years,if im going to put new proccessor then i will have to get new cooling fan as well and how much will this all cost, has anybody done such a thing to there pc system before({})
and another thing is i have this second hhd with windows 98se on how can i put this into my computer,at the moment i only have one hhd inside my pc
what will i need to put both into my pc and will i need one off these cables with two conections on so i can put one hhd master and the other slave

It's easier than that these days...The fan clips on to a plastic bracket which is around the CPU and then there are 2 levers that you operate to push the heatsink hard against the CPU. If you buy a retail pack, the cpu will come with fan and heat sink. Socket 478 processors are being replaced with LGA775 so you may have difficulty locating one new and may have to resort to E----.
As you can buy a complete new entry level machine for around £200 that will probably outperform your old machine you may want to consider that route.

As regards the Hard disk, the standard cable has 3 connectors; one to the motherboard plus 2 drives, but you may find that already has HD and CD on it.

In that case you need another IDE cable to go on the spare IDE connector on the motherboard. You could put your spare hard drive on that or you could move the CD to the new cable putting the 'new' hard disk where the CD came from. If you do that you'll need to make sure that the new hard disk is jumpered to slave.

Hope that helps

Peter

I've been using Asus mother boards and AMD processors for years. AMD are well ahead of Intel in the 64 bit and dualcore processor stakes.

first you've to know what you wanna do ?

and then decide something for your budget. AMD is good "+" sign means that it is cheaper and works better in many cases in respect to the same level P4 or P5 CPUs.

But you've to know what's your problem first, and then burn up your money. The power supply is also important. Check that it supports your favorite CPU type. If not your whole PC will burn out.
