Canged my laptop 2 weeks ago and noticed my serial port has 25 pin connection where my old one had 9.Using my crossover cable i can connect to my d box. Want to load Keys via ftp. Cant remember do i need the null cable as well because the DCC ftp wont open. Connect ok. But cant see files in dbox. Maybe i loaded files wrong. Will get a connector 25 to 9 pin today and try it. Am i going the right way.

Only use the ethernet straight cable to FTP.

Save the Null/Crossover for clearing the box when thinks go wrong and I want to flash with a new image.

are you sure your 25 pin port is serial, and not parallel?

Most new laptops dont have a serial port :-( You can check your laptops documentation to check this. I also have this problem, when an image crashes completely i need to go to my girlfriends house to use her PC's serial port to reflash the box with null modem cable.

I know you can get a usb-to-serial conversion cable. but im not sure what will happen when you use a program like dreamup to flash ; ie, will it connect the DB serial port through the USB interface?

if your image is not buggered, then you for sure dont need the null modem cable for transfering files, crossover should be fine.

can you ping the DB from the laptop?

ie, start button -> run -> type 'cmd'

then in the new screen you get ...

ping 192.168.0.24 (or whatever your DB IP is)

Think your right. The usb serial cable is around €48 here in rip off Dublin. Yea can ping from the Dreambox control centre. As i said transferred files over a couple of weeks ago, maybe i will download DCC again on sat when looking at Chelsea going futher ahead in the Premiership. Yahoooo

I think i know what the problem is. Although the DCC is on my computer, I never installed it on it. So again on sat i will try at 4 up.
