I just bought at new Triax TD88 from a web site in Finland and the dish is slightly damaged. Do you think I should return it? How badly do you think this is going to degrade my signals? It looks like some kind of circular item of about 35cm diameter has been pressed on the dish although it's hard to see the full ring in the photo. It's only just noticeable by running my fingers over it and only visible when light reflects off it, so it is only a very slight imperfection. The package wasn't damaged so it looks like it was like this before it was mailed to me.

I really need the dish to work as well as possible as I'm using a dish too small for my needs but I can't physically go any bigger due to the position on the balcony it needs to go on so I'm quite disappointed it's arrived damaged as I need every last drop of signal. On the other hand it's going to be a pain in the arse to send it back...

Yes, I agree with Journey.

Can the damaged one not be collected at the same time as any replacement is delivered?

Yeah, I might see if I can just drive over and replace it, they are about 40km from me but by the look of it they might not want visitors as it's a web based shop only.

I just read about folks on here hammering and bending dishes back into shape and thought maybe I'm making too much of a deal about something the average person wouldn't even notice...

You might find they are drop shippers - they take your order & pass it onto their suppliers in that case.

If you get a replacement and they don't want the damaged one back, I'm sure one our 'refurb' experts would take it off your hands......AS?....CJ?.....

BTW...drop shippers?....isn't that how it got damaged??

Well I've dropped them an email with photo and see what happens. As far as I can tell these items (and a few other bits) arrived from their offices.

I also bought a Black Ultra Quad to test and see how it compares to my twin. Never realised how big and heavy the damn thing would be! It's like a brick!

I think I'd only get the face replaced and not the fixings but even the refurb experts might struggle to get the minor dents out of this one!! Probably cause more damage trying to straighten it.

Did you ever consider the Penta 85cm? From reading it's supposed to perform very well, although some also say the TD 88cm is a nice little dish.
If they replace it, and let you keep the dented one, it would be intersting to know how both compare, in signal quality terms, as everything else would be the same.

To be honest, not really, as they are hard to get here and I'm worried (maybe unjustifiably) that the odd shape isn't good for multi LNB setups. I've got a TD88 already working very well for me on another property so I'm happy with the performance given its size. I just need a lot patience to set it up properly with the awkward bracket setup...

If I get to keep the damaged one I'll certainly give it a go as I'm curious too. I suspect there won't be much noticeable difference but I know if I don't try to get this sorted out I'll forever be wondering if the signals would have been better (and I'm working with low signal levels as it is).

Ive not been over impressed with the 85 Penta Ive got. Its a nice solid dish but it doesnt pull in anything that a cheap 80 cant get.

Mines currently geting very intermittent signals from 7E (thanks trees :( )

Bit off topic:rolleyes:

Had a chat with my friendly landowner ( not landlord ) a few weeks ago about a problem tree again blocking sat. reception due to growth ( 48 feet high now ) this evening he turned up with tractor and chainsaw and felled the tree, as usual I get to keep the tree for firewood in the log burning stove.

Yes, indeed. It looks and feels decidedly silly at the business end of a 40cm Gibertini.
But I forgive the designer - it just works so well... :)
(although the single is much lighter but has same performance.)

This is why I had to buy one, some say the quad is better than the others, some say it's worse and now you say it's the same. ;)

I tested a quad and a single on a CM120 on 28.2E, and the Quad gave about 1db more signal strength, but the single gave slightly better C/N ratio. Probably manufacturing tolerance play. So I'd say they perform the same. The Quad/Single thing I believe is mostly for Invacom products.
