Is there any way of accessing it through broadband? Most newsgroups insist on dial-up.

Hi Reddevil,

I am on NTLworld broadband and I cannot see the Dreambox group.

I can see alt.binaries.whatever.

Oh well.

Other than the fact it's not a binary newsgroup, it sounds like a good place to swap 0's and 1's ;)

Not all providers are carrying this group though. If you want it and can't get it, mail your provider. They are normally quite good about adding new groups.

LOL, I checked on Teranews too ;)

Great free access for anyone whose ISP service is complete pants.
Good completeness, and excelent server retention. 50MB a day free last time I checked, so good for hard-to-find small files.

Unfortunately, I can't check my Pipex server as I've exhausted my 30GB newgroup download limit for this month!!!

I'll let you know Friday! :)

I made do with the free access, as I am not all that keen on the newsgroup mentality, they seem to be a magnet to every knucklehead on the planet.

I get 2Mbps unlimited download with business-quality support from Pipex. They then give you a capped 10GB download capacity to their newsgroup servers, and charge £2 per 5GB extra. They also throttle the newsgroup download speed to about 750Kbps until you pay the extra, then you can run flat-out. The retention is almost as good as the so-called 'Premium' newsgroup services, which you would pay a lot more for.

Pipex also provide 50Mb high-quality webspace (which I use) and all the other usual stuff.

For this I pay £34 a month (plus any extra newsgroup capacity I buy). I think that's pretty good value, but if anyone can recommend anything better, I'll have a serious look at it.

The newsgroup access is essential to me. I use it more than any other web service.

Tried to order ths and got offered something at 80% more!

Crap outfit, I would not touch it. Apparently their service is not available in my area!

What's the binary retention on the newsgroup servers like?

That's everything to me.

Still waiting for activation date. It's on 1 month contract so if they change the price I'll change to the best deal.
