Hi,
After the 12v switch/output function on my dreambox packed up, I thought of using a diseqc 1.1 switch to select between my two 4way switches. I have been reading around and it appears this would work. The big (non technical) question I have is where can I purchase one in the uk? Lots of receivers seem to support this version but not many switches around.
Hope this question doesn't break any forum rules about trading, if so please remove.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
:confused

Any two way DiSEqC switch will be 1.0/1.1 compatible. The Global brand is known to be reliable for a number of applications and I'm sure there are other good makes too.

I think a more pertinent question is whether a two way DiSEqC switch would work in conjunction with your two 4way switches (what type of switch are these?). You seem to think it would work, I did not think it would work if all the switches use the DiSEqC protocol.

I think you will find that this not the case. Most of the switches are Diseqc 1.0 only.

But I agree there are problems cascading Diseqc switches, but apparently it's not impossible as long as the correct combination of committed and uncommitted switches are used.

I have not needed to investigate this further as yet, so can't provide further details. There is som good info on the spaun website though.

Another option might be to use an 8 way switch instead. I think theres one by EMP-Centauri, that operates on Diseqc 1.2 I think, and pretends it's a motor. I am sure someone has already posted a link to where to buy it from, but can't find it just now.

Edit:-

Looks like it's DiSEqC 1.1 compatible as well.

I think you missed my point.

Most receivers sold now have DiSEqC 1.2 capabilty but can control DiSEqC 1.0 & 1.1 switches.

I think more to the point is that the original poster seems to be saying that his DiseqC control is not working with his Dreambox and I'm pretty sure that if 1.2 doesn't work, nor will 1.0 or 1.1.

Thanks for your replies lads, as robbo states most switches for sale in the Uk seem to be either 1.0 or 2.0. As far as I'm aware, the diseqc command has two signals, one to switch the first (1.1) switch and the second to select a/a,a/b and so on, this is my understanding anyway after reading around.
@ Rolf, I think my diseqc function is working ok, just the 12v output I used to drive a a/b changeover switch is broken (12v all the time) I think the relay is welded/stuck.
Thanks again for all your relplies, I have found a company that supplies the trade and have managed to persuade them to sell me a switch direct, ouch..that Spaun stuff is expensive!

Kind regards,
Ollie

Ah sorry Ollie, I misinterpreted your first post, have now added the voltage symbol after the 12. :)

A couple of our members use the eight way switches and get some pretty good results, but looks like you have it sorted now. :)

@Rolf - thanks,sorry for the confusion, must type slower:p.
@Robbo - I've ordered a Spaun SUR 420F, if I have got my homework right, this should select between 4 x 4way diseqc switches. Two for now, and hopefully expanding to two more in the future:).

Best wishes,
Ollie

Yes, I agree, according to the 'blurb' it will work.
I take it that it's going indoors then? since you've ordered the ----F.

How much was it?

Hi Robbo,
I haven't used Spaun products before so didn't know the F was an indoor switch..luckily it is going indoors :-worship.
The guy on the phone said £37 plus vat and delivery but I foolishly didn't get him to confirm the final total, should get it tomorrow, will let you know how much when it appears on my balance..If I'm not in too much shock:p.
Using two receivers atm, so it will simplify things.

Best wishes,
Ollie

Ouch!
Still I suppose one has to pay for quality.
Let us know how you get on with it.

Hi Robbo,
Grand total of £45:eek:
Not tooo impressed atm, although early days, the switch seems to work, but intermittently. I can't get a satellite, then I can, then I loose another. I have set it up according to diagrams I have downloaded from various places. I have tried using the 'repeat' option which I think makes things a bit better, does anyone have any experience of the various diseqc commands in the dreambox menu?
Maybe the global switches that I'm using downstream are not fully compatible, (could always see the bank manager to arrange replacing them with Spaun switches also):-laugh
Will keep you updated.

Best wishes,
Ollie

Here is some information I found some time ago on cascading DiseqC switches. :)

Here's a link to an 8 way diseqC switch _http://www.berlin-satshop.de/emp-centauri-s.168-diseqc-schalter-8x1-L819.htm

Yes, and it says the exact opposite to what the spaun website says.:confused

I will be interested to find out exactly which method gets it working.

Thanks for the info Rolf, agreed Robbo the Spaun website contradicts this.
Threre is so much info around on the dreambox, but I am yet to find a comprehensive guide/info to ALL the diseqc options and what they do.
Will have more time at the weekend to experiment, will keep you guys updated.

Best wishes,
Ollie

When cascading switches it is necessary for the receiver to repeat commands. The DiSEqC specification allows up to three cascaded levels, which will require some commands to be sent thrice. I believe that a receiver labelled DiSEqC compatible must be capable of this to meet the specification. Whether this includes the Dreambox, I don't know.

Thanks Robbo,
I just assumed the command would filter through the switches in one hit, so the repeat (forgotton the exact name) option is for every level,
First - to go through the first switch (say imput 1 of the 1.1 switch)
Second - to select for the second switch (a/b or whatever, diseqc 1.0 switch)
I tried all 8 satellites briefly last night and everything worked, hoping it will stay this way. The dreambox has all these options in the menu config, I will check these tonight.

Thanks,
Ollie

Just a quick update, the switch is doing what it should, but sometimes it takes a short while to change over, this seems to vary from satellite to satellite, (so I can't actually pinpoint a particular port/output at fault.)
Thanks Rolf & Robbo for your help.

Regards,
Ollie
