Motor Mast dead vertical in 360 degrees with a spirit level,

Though this is the ideal practice (dead vertical 360 degrees), I would say (for theoretical understanding) dead vertical is only needed EAST/WEST.
North/South deviation of the pole can be countered with elevation of the mount, I would say.

But of course, I like my pole dead vertical 360 degrees also! Then you know you don't have to worry, whatsoever....:)

Deep in the Boonies in the central Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
That's why the OP needs - as several people have pointed out - to ensure the pole is absolutely vertical, and thus why I suggested a post level as it is a very quick & easy way to determine if it is.

OTOH, as I said in Post #4, it could still just be a case of the dish True South alignment not being correct as I believe that that is a very likely cause.

The need to have a vertical pole depends on the mount being used to attach the dish to the pole. If something like a polar mount or Jeager 1224 H-H motor is being used then it is the alignment of the mount on top of the pole that is important. If the top of the pole that the mount is seated on is not cut at 90 degrees to the vertical length of pole then even if the pole is vertical in all planes the mount will not be aligned correctly.

In addition, if anything like a pole size adapter is being used then these often have a levelling system inbuilt.

The need for vertical poles is more related to dishes mounted on diseqc motors that can slide up or down the pole rather than have a need to sit on top.

This small burr will add just over 0.7 degrees of tilt to the mount. Even if the pole is vertical in all planes along its long axis the mount will be 0.7 degrees out from vertical.

Yes, but with e.g. CM1.2 polarmounts, they clamp firmly around the pole eliminating most of the unevenness on the top.
In contrast, the CM180 AzEl mount does have bolt-fastening like on CJ or RimaNTSS' creations, so they can be adjusted a bit.
Not sure about the CM180 PM, but the prodelins also have bolt fasteners.
The problem is: it can be hard to determine if the mount is vertical if adjusted wrsp to a non-plumb pole...

Ok well I've spent the past 2 afternoons trying to sort this out and all I've achieved is losing west completely. Everything is mounted correctly as far as I can tell.

I give up, this is too much of a headache. My username still stands.

Does anyone know of all good companies that will work with motorised dishes in the East Anglia area?

do not worry @Idiot , everything is going to be fine. Just read little bit more and start your install from from ground "zero" . Just try to be logical and follow all steps in installation one-by-one.

So, I assume that means that you have checked that the pole IS vertical, and that means that the dish should track correctly IF it points absolutely due True South when set to "0 degrees" on the mount (the dish elevation must already be roughly correct or you would not be getting anything much at all) - but have you remembered to correct for the difference between True South and Magnetic South at YOUR location?

OTOH, check the correction required at http://www.satsig.net/maps/lat-long-finder.htm - you put in your post code and it tells you Magnetic compass bearing (azimuth) and so you don't have to work out the correction, and also shows the beam elevation (how you achieve the latter will depend on which dish and motor mount you are using).

Therefore, it might help, and this has been said before, please can you tell us exactly which dish and motor you are using, and whether you are using Diseqc 1.2 or USALS motor control?

Don't give up!

Unless you have some seriously faulty equipment, you ARE able to set the dish up correctly.
The less experience you have just requires a bit more patience.

When setting up polar-mount or horizon-to-horizon dish, there's a simple set of rules that just need to be followed to the point.
And as with any other setup - and believe you me, most members on the forum have been there - getting it right requires several attempts, plus continous fiddling to adjust, optimise, and maximise.
Some of us never stop fiddling, endlessly trying to squeeze a few more dB or % out of our set-ups.

If you want members here stop giving genernal advice, just upload a few pictures of dish, mount, motor, mounting point etc.
Takes 5 minutes. Allows people to much more specific.

amiko alien2. Dm200 motor 80cm dish, when the cables are on motor I get no signal at all, but get signal as fixed dish, even got pro installers in but same thing so I know it osnt me. Could it be new motor faulty? Looks like I got expensive doorstop.

I'd check that you haven't swapped the cables on the motor (I.E. LNB for receiver) I know that sounds silly, but I've done it before. If that's ok, go through your signal path to your receiver checking for poorly terminated F connectors or shorts..

yes, that's how i know its boy just me, he couldn't get any kind of signal either signal no probes as fixed dish , just when attached to motor. Go figure/got news ,got send back to shop.
