I am not sure if this is a receiver problem or a dish problem.

I have exactly the same system as my brother (who lives 5 miles down the road) i.e. 1.2M Channel Master, AD3600 Receiver. His dish is mounted on the wall where as mine is in the garden on a pole. The Sat range that we switch between is 42deg East to 1deg West.

My setup is fine. However, my brothers constantly requires adjustments, especially the 42deg East position. For example in 2 weeks I have moved the position from 1044 to 1058 in order to get the same signal strength. Is this a problem with a mis-aligned dish or with the receiver?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tirosh.

Echostar and motors - ho ho

1) If youre lucky its the wind over the past few days and it wont happen again

2) If not so lucky its the reedswitch in the motor or possibly a connection between the two items

3) If more unlucky its the motor bearings are loose (replacement ) or your installer has fitted non shielded actuator cable (replacement)

4) Or its the Echostar (new memory chip - replacement )

Channel Hopper, I hope it is the first. If not then do you have any ideas on how I can go about checking to see what the proble is?

First thing

Look at the receiver end of the cable and check that there is some silver foil covering the two smaller cables within (usually black and white). If not cut the outer cover back about an inch and look again

Then its time to go up to the dish and start looking in the back of the motor for either loose wires or measuring gaps between the magnet and the glass object sitting on top of it

Between 1) and 2) give the dish a good shake to see if anything moves. Bearings, motor drive or maybe the fitting to the pole may be loose
