@Raystorm what about old things like PAL encoders, Videocrypt, D2MAC etc.?
As Paul R said, the channels come to us either in the clear or encrypted, we never had any of that kit. We just uplink the stream.

These are hanging off most petrol stations along the german autobahn.
Also seem to have them many petrol stations in France, and lo and behold have today also spotted them off certain stations in Italy (near Lake Garda).

IMAG4345x.jpg

IMAG4344x.jpg

My guess is that they are relics from a certain point when the particular station was managed by Shell or something, and sat-link was the reliable way to distribute petrol prices between HQ and the individual outlets.
But I am guessing that with network connections being so easy to come by now, most of these dishes are obsolete and no longer used.

But they are almost without fail all Chamel Masters, of the pro 100cm variant, and it looks like the 0.8 f/D variant...

Friend of mine who worked for some petrol company, once said to me that 2-way internet was necessary to prevent illegal payments by stolen credit cards, in case that bad boys disconnected land-line communications.

Old facilities of internet by satellite, in Spain you can see also in gas stations and isolated points.
A friend with similar equipment (company) in 2008 by Hispasat 1Mbs approximately 540€ uros per month+phone line (IP Phone) that we never use, we found out.
It is a town, phone if, but the switchboard did not have ADSL, 1 years later they put a new one and now with 4 telephone lines with 4 ADSL of 6Mbs, I have to dismantle the antenna one of these days.

Es un pueblo, telefono si, pero la centralita no tenia ADSL, 1 años mas tarde pusieron una nueva y ahora con 4 lineas telefonicas con 4 ADSL de 6Mbs, tengo que desmontar la antena un dia de estos.

CM120 with polar mount spotted on house in down-town Sirmione on the Lake Garda shore-front.
(Very nice old town; very touristy as well, but charming, nevertheless.)
Apologies for the crappy quality, but that was what was available at the time :)

Tbey are on most UK petrol stations as well, but also were on most newsagents who sell lottery tickets, not really looked recently, sure they all have them.

Just came back from Dubrovnik - lovely city! Satellite scene is boring - mostly dual feed 1m dishes pointing at 16 and 13e. Some rusty.

Last month Google updated it's satellite images in my area. 4.6m become visible (in yellow oval) and also construction of car-pad (in red square, which I've started about month ago).

Looking at google maps at my house, you can see my 1.8 CM clearly, but no other dishes....

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Are not some of the "collective we" being a little "indiscrete" about our locations? (I was warned about that sort of thing year ago:-lol)

What would the problem be?
Google maps are free for anyone to peruse.
If you browse aruond for several days, and come across my house - then congratulations; you've found a house with a dish.
(Which is not breaking any rules here - and I suppose most of my neighbours have noticed the CM after six years in the garden!)

@st1
The images themselves mean "nothing" - could be "anyone"/"anywhere" but if "someone" has (e.g.!) dishes which might contravene local laws (the UK ones are "tight" on that!) then "someone" from the authorities who looks for non-compliances might want to investigate further...

Also, "someone else" with criminal intentions might consider that a property with such kit could have something valuable inside the house...............

And, yes, those are the sorts of comments I got early last year.

Sort of linked I guess seeing as it fits in with "dishes not in my home location", just seen this one in the background on an episode of Relic Hunter on Paris Première while flicking through just now. :D

When I am in the garage I usually have TV on. Suddenly I've spotted something interesting on the screen. I am glad I was fast enough to screenshot it. Interesting was not actor, but antenna behind him ScreenHunter_369 Aug. 09 22.59.jpg . Well, even it is not satellite antenna, I think it still should not be placed indoors. And secondly, I've remembered I have the same one (at least I think so). Run upstairs and took couple of pictures of it IMG_20170809_230207 (Large).jpg IMG_20170809_230221 (Large).jpg . It is 1m foldable, fly-away antenna, made of plastic. Perhaps it still can be used for satellite reception.

This is quite deceptive because I couldn't decide whether it's a 1.8 or 2.4 but it's a single piece and pointing somewhere south or west on the arc and possibly at something that has Russians on it. The other one is sunrise this morning from the eastern tip of the European Union :)
