Hi guys,

Hope this is not too confusing...

I have a dish on the roof - it needs to be re aligned. I don't want to pay 65 pounds to sky and there is no way i cant get to the roof (I am on the top floor, the trees are pretty much the same size as the roof and they're about 10 meters away . I want to install a new dish on the wall of the building.What is the minimum distance I need between the trees and the dish ?

Cheers

Hi, basic trigonometry. London look angle to s*y is 26 degrees.

Hence tan26 = height/10m
so height = 10m x tan26
height = 10 x 0.487
height = 4.48m . therefore anything over 4 metres higher than the dish would that is 10m away would cause blockage (that gives you some clearance

My Satellite Setup
Snap's setup: (In Spain) Humax HDR, Prodelin 1.8m dish + Invacom QDF-031 + CM feed, (In UK) CallFlow VDSL + EE 4G, Sky Q, YouView HD, Mac OSX, iOS
My Location
UK: Tonbridge, Kent. Spain: Madrid.
A foolproof way of doing it is to take a look next Monday, the 10th, in the morning, when the sun (if it is not cloudy) will be directly behind the the satellite. Look where the shadows from the trees are at the exact time of day.
You can still get a good idea for a couple of days before and after.
For times go to this sun outage calculator:
http://www.satellite-calculations.com/SUNcalc/SUNcalc.htm
You can use this method in the spring and autumn every year.
