dm800 card reader 3.3v mod white card

hi guys, a qwik guide to modding ur 800 from a 5v reader to 3.3v


1st pic (3points)

these are the 3 main points we are interested in!

these are what we are going to be using!

2nd pic (cut there)

if you look at your box you will see that 2 of the 3 points are connected

by a track about 7mm long! you need to cut this with a sharp stanley

knife and place a 10 ohm .5w resistor across where the track was!

3rd pic (zener)

this is where the 3.3v zener (1.3w) goes. make sure it is these to pins

ie 1 goes to same place as resistor and the other must go to 0v.

4th pic (black band)

this shows the orientation of the diode

ie yours should look exactally the same!

5th pic (final)

this is how it looks after all is done!

all is self explainatary!

have tried my old blue card in and another old 5v card they still work in

it aswell as the 3.3v

***** update ***** (for clones)

after modding a original box with this and working well i came to do my clone!

the clone box does not like a 3.3v zener! it needs to be a 3.6v zener!

the clones must have a differnt chipset or something that just does not like going down to 3.3v!

3.6v will not harm your card in the slightest!

i am leaving mine on test for a while just to confirm!!!

Are ye guys saying that sticking the white card directly into the internal card reader without mod will likely destroy the card. For those of us who are made of weaker stuff would you suggest that we could use an external card reader connected via usb to the dreambox

Dunno about anyone else but I wouldnt be hacking around inside any receiver of mine using those pics - they are too small scale and not clear enough..

Lets also point out to anyone contemplating this - you will most definitely invalidate the warranty on your box and you should never ever attemt any modification like this unless you know exactly what you are doing, and accept if it goes wrong you may well wreck the box.

Also although I've not tested it on my 800 I've read reports that the white sky card can be put into the internal slot.

If you read the 0963 CAID thread then you'll see the users reports.

use the sky white card in my dm800 and one in dm500
both have usb laptop coolers under them (they are in closets so don't bother about the sound)
i just checked on the dm500 by removing the white card, it was hot/cold: i.e not hot, but not cold either, it felt cold but i could feel that if the fan was not there, it would be burning

so i recommend anyone running them in the box to think twice and check their heat level

question though: how do the old boxes manage? were sky boxes always 3.6v even with the blue cards? i'm quite surprised that no one using an old thomson sky box burn their white card

my old black grundig box (which i used to activate my card) reads 3.6v over the supply pins of the white card and 5v with the old blue, so must be auto switching !

only reason i modded the dreambox is that after an hour of use my white card had gone yellow right behind the chip and was bloody hot and took a few piccys to help any 1 else incase it was burning out their cards!

some ppl have reported their cards working ok without modding

i no longer use my card in receiver but for the few months i did with this mod it never missed a beat even over clocked!

but like anologuesat says please be careful and this will avoid warrranty! but as mine is chinese i suppose there isnt 1 lol

I don't have any newer reader, I have just old Elvis (Ad-Tehnik Multiprogrammer 3.5)

But I ordered Smargo yesterday and I expect to get it tomorrow. It seems to be the safest way and I like to be able to use it on Linux PC server also.

I did this mod but my when I tested volts it read 3.8 volts not 3.6 volts and NDs card gets very very warm but not as hot as before mod. I don't know why voltage didn't drop to 3.6 volts. I have done heaps of voltage mods to Humax and Strong boxes without any prblems. I have a Smargo but can't get it to work.

why would you do this mod? the white card works fine in a dm800,the original sky box is 5v so no need to mod!! burnt out cards were due to cccam being setup wrong

my white card has been in my dm800 for a year with no issues
