I have decided to get rid of Sky because I have got NTL and my own satellite receiver + dish. I phoned Sky to cancel and they said that I have to give one months notice. I have been with Sky for around 3 years. Can they do this as I own the sky receiver and dish and will not be using it?

AFAIK they have the requirement for a month's notice in their rules which you signed up to 3 year's ago.

So - yes they can. And it doesn't depend on how you got the box and dish.

Nearly everyone now seems to demand a month's notice Sky, Telewest, AOL.
You have to be very careful or you will lose out everytime.
If you are only thinking of leaving some service (that's a laugh) check to see if they demand a month's notice.
