just bolting up my 1224 motor and have 2 pieces that the manual doesn't refer to and wondering do i need to use them

i've circled them in the below picture that i've found but they must be needed to set the dish declination angle ? as i will be using a 90cm andrews on the motor.

also any one got some tips to setting it up ?

thanks

You do need them to get the right angle on your dish.

I think you're right they are for getting the dish at the correct angle to follow the arc.
Setting it up is very straight forward, plumb mount and align on your nearest due south satellite, etc.
The only problem is getting the wires set correcly, as in the instructions it just states connect up the positive and negative connectors and move the dish East or West, if it moves in the wrong direction move it back to the starting position and swap the wires round.
Do you have a 36v receiver or are you using a V Box?
