I think my box has a fault and need some advice. i have a static sky dish with quad lnb and a 80cm dish for foriegn channels. if i connect the cable i use for my foriegn channels into the quad lnb on my sky dish, and connect this to my sky reciever it works fine. if i then try and connect it to my DB500 i cannot get a lock. i cannot get a lock from my foreign dish either. the thing is i cant seem to get a good connection between the cable and the IN connector on my DB500. i have to strip the cable of the connector and then push that in the IN connector on my DB500 to get the values to move and even then i still cant get a lock.
when i look at the back of my DB, the OUT connector has t plates inside it the pinch the cable once inserted making a storng connection., the IN one does not however. is it meant to have? is there anywhere i can get this fixed?

Why don't you try tinning the signal 'core' to make it a better fit?

hi,

im not the best at soldering and would probably make it worse? is there anywhere i could send my box for repair? im annoyed cause i have only just bought it off ebay and it looks like i was broken before i bought it. i might have to try and claim my money back but im not hopeful.

Tinning is virtually impossible to screw up if you use a good quality solder with flux and if you do make a mess, just cut off an inch of cable and try again :)

Not an ideal solution, but if you're not going to be connecting and disconnecting it every five minutes it might save you a lot of grief.

Send it back to the seller, the connector needs the core clamp to function properly. Is this a new unit?

the sellar says it was new. The thing is he says he bought it by mistake as he was after the cable version. looks to me like he was trying to ram in the cable and has broken it.

Certainly sounds that way, can you take picture of the part, it may be a relatively simple repair.

possibly. all it is the the rear connector where you plug in the cable from the dish. if you look through the tiny hole there are two bits, one down each side that "pinch" the cable to get a good connection. i think all recievers have this

I was wondering if you'd had the top off and could take a picture, all connectors have the gripper in the middle, bu it is whether this (the connector) is an integral part of the tuner or not. If it is, I would send it back.

i dont want to take the back off and break the warranty seal unless i have to. The connector is where i plug the cable from the dish into so i think it is quite important. i have sent an email to the seller and if he doesnbt repky ill try ringing him. he only kives 15 minutes away

Well, it's a no-brainer then. If you're sure it's the box at fault, go knock on his door, and take the largest m8 you have with you!

The way you were talking initially, it sounded like you'd looked inside, so if you haven't, as STICK says, taking it back is the only option.
