We have quite a crop of mushrooms growing at the end of the garden. Here a some pics of a "middle aged" one.

The older larger ones, are bigger and flatter. The oldest are slightly up turned at the edges.
I was wondering, as they look quite tasty, are they the edible variety?

The one ringed in red, is about the size of the one in the first pics.

I thought they were quite small?
The larger version of the one in the pic, is about 3-4 inches in diameter. Magic mushrooms. Wow. ;)

In the spare room.
Hi Kleef,
Do any have a ring around the stem, and do they have a faint smell of aniseed?
If so they are probably horse mushrooms, but it's still quite hard to tell from the pics.

They look as though they could be OK but you need to show them to someone who knows their mushrooms in person as you can't tell everything with a photograph.

As prof says if they smell slightly of aniseed, or have a nice mushroomy smell, they are probably good. If there is no smell at all - beware.

Sorry can't be more help. We have a couple of books here but I can't find either of them as the place is upside down while we're decorating.

Incidentally, I think they're too small to be Horse Mushrooms.

The smell quite sweet, similar to a honey kind of smell.

Received a reply from agarics.org, a mushroom website, regarding my mushroom query….

"Thanks for your interest.

I can't be sure from the pix. There are only a few mushrooms that
can be definitely identified from overall pictures.

However, it does look as if your mushrooms are probably of the
genus Agaricus. These are a lot like the big flat mushrooms you can
buy in stores (in fact those are also Agaricus). They have brown
spores/gills.

There are several Agaricus in the Database section of agarics.org.
Take a look through and see whether the photos and descriptions tie
up with yours. You will probably find many other pictures and
descriptions by searching Google for "Agaricus".

Most Agaricus are edible and some are very nice. Any that stain
yellow on cutting should be avoided: these will give a nasty upset
stomach.

In general, eating wild mushrooms is to be done only when you are
sure of identity, so do take care.

P. Chase"

Now to do some GOOOOGLING!

The biggest and smallest in the group, with a teaspoon as a gauge.

My search revealed a close match to the "field mushroom"
(Agaricus campestris). Although there are some there that look slightly different. Still a bit wary.
