Ok, a few questions about dish size.
I'm looking to get a motorised system but not sure what size dish to go for. After reading around the forum, Triax seems to be the way to go, but should i get the 88cm or 1.1m?. Are the benefits of the 1.1 really that much greater over an 88cm dish?. I'm situated in the NW Highlands, so i'm thinking the bigger might well be a must, anyway?. Also, is the larger dish as imposing as it sounds?.
I'm wanting to run off DiseqC. Will this handle a 1.1m dish, baring in mind it will be pole mounted in a well sheltered area. If so, which motor?.
Thanks ;)

Generally the larger your dish the more signals you will receive.

Do you have any target channels that you wish to watch?

A DiSEqC motor will drive a dish up to 1.2m (at the limit) you will find a lot of different opinions as to the best.

Being in the Highlnad you're at the limit of a lot of satellite footprints so the bigger the better.

If you need a larger dish than 1.2m a ground mount and a different motor would be recommended.

Thanks for the info so far guys ;)

Target channels are pretty much whatever i can recieve and decode, using my SS2. Preferrably sport, films and womens bare bits........but as with most things in life, not a lot of this appears to be free?.
I don't really want to be going much larger than 1.2m at the moment but i appreciate the bigger the better. So considering my location, the 1.1m triax it is:cool: . Most likely with the Invacom 0.3 lnb . Still undecided on a motor.

Anyone know of a good place to buy the triax 1.1 with a good motor?.
Thanks ;)

couple of weeks ago I had the same dilema...couldnt decide which dish I wanted. read so much on this forum, and everyones so nice and helpful here.
I live in NW and opted for triax88cm because my sat interests are mainly 19.2e, 13e, and 30w. and 88cm owners around my area can pick up these birds easily. I wouldv gone for 1.1m if had a shielded place to put it up, but mine's going to be on the roof and also dont want to put much pressure on diseqc motor.

anyway, my kits are lying on the floor lounging around waiting for a free weekend and slightly warmer weather for take/lift off. So readers...watch the weather. But I have so much expectations from you all, I wont panic I promise! :-/

Would that be a patched Comag SL55?

So it works then?

I still have one it's sitting here in it's box.

Did use it when I was having problems a while ago and it's a great little (and I do mean little) box.

Maybe someday i will get around to patching it and see what happens - ahh someday....

The term "well sheltered" is relative of course - but in the NW Highlands of Scotland, a 1.1M dish must surely warrant as robust a motor as possible....

Correct, with a 1.2m dish you will need as heavy duty tackle as you can afford, a proper polar mount and jack is the order of the day, or a really heavy duty h to h, anything less and the wind will make the dish into a good frisbee.

Would the Stab 120 stand up to a good blow?:D . I can have the dish mounted low down and out of the prevailing wind. The gardens pretty sheltered anyway but just to be extra safe, the dish will sit between the house and the shed.
Back to dish size again........I just read that the Gibertini 1M out performs the Triax 1.1. Any opinions on that?. Cheers ;)

Please post the link that said the Gibertini outperforms the Triax!

From a reliable source if there are any (triaxmann, satlex.de),I got the info that when he changed from the Gibertini to the Triax he had an increase of at least 15% on his recievers quality meter and that was with the same setup except for the dish.

He said he could get transponders on weak satellites that wasn't available before.

By the way I would recommend the Moteck sg-2100 motor.

Don't think it would be right to post the sellers link, but the quote is as follows "1 Metre Gibertini dish even performed better than the 1.1 Triax and the 1 Metre High Gain dish we used to sell".
Seems to me that the majority of forum users prefer the Triax, so i'm going for the Triax 1.1.
Which motor though?.....choices choices:confused . Stab 120 or the Moteck sg-2100?. Do you guys have any good or bad points, to share about these two motors?. Thanks ;)

Hi all

The statement "the Gibertini outperforms the Triax!" is a load of advertising blurb and opinions from a firm out at Bristol who appears to be pushing Gibertini dishes. It might be true, it might not, best to look at the specifications for both makes of dish and make up your own minds. Specs for the Gibertini can be found on their web site, I presume the same can be found on the Triax site.

The triax has a gain of 40.2 dBi at 11.7 Ghz,the Gibertini 39.4 dBi at 10.95 Ghz.

From practical comparsions that me and my friend has made and according to when "Triaxmann" changed from Gibertini to Triax I'd say the Gibertini has a gain of about 39.8-39.9 dBi at 11.7 ghz (always higher gain at higher frequency).

We must remember that all of these gainfigures are measured with a matched feedhorn and one can never expect this high gain with just any 0.3 dB lnbf.

My 1 meter Gibertini is currently stored in my bedroom because I'm using another dish for the moment.Have been trying to get a matched feedhorn for it but haven't found one and Gibertini in Italy don't answer my mails!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry but I have been mistyping the Gibertini gain at 11.7 Ghz,It's of course
supposed to be 39.8-39.9,not 38.8-38.9 like I wrote before!!!

Thank's forester for waking me up!

If I have got any numbers wrong I would be more than happy to admit it but I would appreciate if you were more specific!:)
