In order to complete the Hughes modified feed assembly ...I need a washer ...effectively..
A specific thickness with a 10mm hole and an outside diameter of 18.5mm..
Yes I could make one with a struggle out of copper ..
But a 1p piece is not far off what I need ..
So centre punched the coin and drilled a 3mm hole so as to mount on a long M3 bolt ..
This I can then mount in the stand drill and hopefully turn down using the drill and a file ..in a poor mans lathe assembly..
Have reduced the diameter by 0.3mm so far ..and have to let the drill motor cool down for a while..
So thought I'd share a photo with you ..
I do hope HRH is a forgiving sort ..and doesn't throw me in the Tower for a 'penneth o copper' ..
After all I'm defacing her coinage in a good cause.
lol

VS, you may want to read this....:-rofl2 (which I found on a legal forum)

Section 10 of the Coinage Act 1971 says quite categorically (if at some length)...

"Restrictions on melting or breaking of metal coins..

(1)No person shall, except under the authority of a licence granted by the Treasury, melt down or break up any metal coin which is for the time being current in the United Kingdom or which, having been current there, has at any time after 16th May 1969 ceased to be so.

(2)Any person who contravenes subsection (1) of this section shall be liable—

(a)on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding £400;

(b)on conviction on indictment, to a fine or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or both.

Defacing by drilling a hole through the coin (and through the Queen's head) would count as destruction.

Counterfeiting currency was called "coining", and for a long time, it was a species of treason, and the penalties were indeed severe.

Upto 1798, the penalty for women was to be burned at the stake: the last such case occurring as late as 18th March 1789.
A little research has revealed that Susan Grant (1809), and Mary Bissaker (1819) were hanged for coining.

Upto 1814, the correct sequence was: drawn, hanged (but not until dead), disembowelled, beheaded, & quartered.
In 1814, the Statute was amended. Thereafter, the hanging was until death; disembowelling was abolished; and the beheading was only carried out upon an already-deceased prisoner.

The last beheadings were in 1820: and they were spared the quartering.

.

If the executioner wasnt concentrating and beheaded the victim first then they would have problems doing the hanging..... :D

..Which is why I'm hoping she is a lenient and compassionate monarch..
After all if metal detecting has taught me anything ..many hundreds of pounds are lost in low value coinage to the ground each year..only to have the acidity of the soil corrode deface and destroy those copper coins ...
And if anything ..I have rescued my share and put them back in circulation..
Surely she can spare one for experiment ??

Leaving the !Ahem! washer removeable means I can try other feeds on what is effectively a WR41 coupling now.

To continue with the enjoyable diversion. It is your right to throw away (literally) money. So you can cast your piggy bank of pound coins down the nearest big hole but you can't melt them down.

Not Really Llew ..
The idea was simply to get the inverto up and running again ..after it was parted from it's feed..
The ultimate aim is to then tweak the inverto (pseudo linear) to see if it will stretch up into Ka D ..
All to be tested on Carl as he is more capable in Ka ..
Perhaps you just picked the wrong dish name ?
I also have a plan to reintroduce the circular/linear depolariser from the Hughes ..to see what effect this may or may not have at 9E ..
So ..
lots to do ..but don't hold yer breath for results..
I don't have anything to aim at since Saorsat went to fec 2/3 ..
cheers

Yes, Carl I meant, sorry.
A tip if you're considering trying to up the Ka range with the Triax LNB - instead of adding different layers of ceramic material to the DRO, and possibly damaging it glueing and unglueing said ceramics (how I ruined the Inverto DRO), try adding metal to the DRO adjuster screw - a soldered M3 nut filed down to half height on mine. That increased the LO on my Triax enough to wind the frequency up to, with mine, about 22.5GHz if I remember., checking with the spectrum analyser.

That's as far as I got, as it went downhill from there (instability), but might be worth a shot with the Inverto, although the thread on that adjusting screw looks a bit larger than M3.

When you say ..checked on the spectrum analyser Llew ..
Do you mean just monitoring your progress after adjustment by watching known peaks shift on crazyscan ..?
Or were you using your 'dogs bollox' new meter ?
I guess the crazyscan method is the best I can hope for ?

Yes, I was watching the peak move up on the Promax, which was connected to my XMW LNB. That was sniffing the Triax LNB LO (powered up by my TBS5925) by placing it a foot or two away. The Promax was set at 20250 MHz, full scan.

I don't see why you can't see the LO in Crazyscan too though, providing it falls into the passband of Crazyscan, LO set at 20250?
