dreambox 500 and hyperterminal

help is needed can't use dream up can't use crossover cable when i use hyperterminal the it says now booting kernel but just stays there i can access the menu but don't know waht i'm lookin for any ideas

I don't know if hyper terminal works (never tried it).

Your Dreambox is connected to a modem?

What are you trying to do?

personally I use putty and my DM is on my network. Networked is by far the easiest solution.

Your crossover cable is ethernet? Do you have a null modem cable? Best tenner you'll spend, trust me ;)

Is there any reason why you're using Hyperterm (which is intended for dial-up modems) rather than a Telnet session?

Can you ping your DB from the PC?

I agree with Leee that using a router and having that as the DHCP server makes life a lot easier, but everything should still be possible with a crossover cable.
