Not recommended at all, but if you're into clones this website is fairly cheap. 120.00 gbp for a dm800se and 160.00 gbp for a VU+ Duo.

It's still worth spending the extra on genuine boxes.

I fully agree, had massive problems with my eagle box

Buying clones is a false economy. Why buy a clone when there are much better receivers for similar money, with no chance that any forthcoming driver update bricks it?

Like CJ says, Uno is first choice if you want a single tuner receiver, and it has blind search which none of the others mentioned have... and if you are on a budget, GiGaBlue or XP1000.

The Amiko Alien SHD8900 is also not a bad contender if your on a budget and your desperate for a receiver.

They also have the added bonus or running with 2 different operating systems. The SPARK operating system is more like the Eaglebox HD operating system and is very easy to use. It also has loads of good addons within the operating system itself.

As it can boot into Spark or E2 its easy to recover if you mess up the E2 installation.

Only thing with the Alien is it is not Broadcom.

That is a very good and valid point.

I have had my Alien receiver for a week or so now and to be honest other than running cccam it can do more or less the same things as the Gigablue can do.

I was very dubious and very sceptical about the Alien which is why i got the cheaper model first, but i can honestly say its not a bad receiver.

Why be the same as all the other sheep, do something different.

Yes, have been looking at an Alien on the sponsors website. May buy one soon to have a play.

The last spark box I had a go on was pretty fast and responsive using the remote (which was well built).

Tried a Polish team's E2 image which seemed fast and very stable.
It did lack a plugins menu, but I'm assuming it isn't a hardship telneting or manually installing the required extensions.

The PKT (Polish Koders Team) Nebula image for the Amiko SHD8900 has a good selection of downloadable plugins :D

My feeling is though if you can afford the extra £50 or so, go for the Alien 2, rather than the SHD8900.

Have a friend here in MAdrid who is into Satellites a long time his nick here in Bonou2 and he specialised in larger dishes and really out of footprint reception .. he swears by the Amikos though he has several other receivers for the superior tuners. I have had a vu on my trusty 45cm , the vu+ uno and from a build quality point of view its top notch and the vix engima image on it seems really stable.
