im also after knowing this, my router is downstairs and my laptop and dreambox is upstairs in my bedroom.

I hear the best thing to do is cable it but i obviously cant so what ill have to somehow do is connect the dreambox into my eithernet port on my laptop and then transfer files/connect to the internet that way through my wireless network card.

the downside of course is if the connection cuts out at anytime while sending data to the dreambox i hear its a hard job putting everything right again if you use wireless.

Quite how you actually do set it up like i want and how i persume you want im not sure, hopefully somebody can explain hehe

Try a search on "Etherrnet bridge"

I can't remember if it works with a DM500 but there are some posts that will help.

Hi dasteelman..
I use a Lynksys G wireless access point..my wireless router is in the front of the house and my dreambox and access point are at the rear...the access point is sitting under the dreambox it picks up the signal and transfers it thru a cat5 cable where I can update images/keys etc..It can be a bit finiky to set up but I got all the help I needed here in the idiots guide..plus a lot of help from super mod john graydon who just happens to be local to me so I could contact him personally. hope this helps..good luck

so to connect you the router you have to go from dreambox to router, you cannot go via computer (only to update files).

so if i want to do 1 of these services where i have to be connected to internet all the time i will have to cable it from box to access point, i cannot connect to my laptop and go through its wireless connection.

ok i think i get it.

I buy a wireless access point and connect my dreambox to that in my bedroom or something, instead of taking my dreambox to the router

I have a wireless wanadoo connection in my house. My laptop is wireless but the 500s is hardwired to router. I just put the ip address of the 500 into my laptop, and can load images key bundles etc. Only problem is new laptops do not have aserial port to use dream up.

I use a bridge on my TM9100 and used it on my DB a few years back with no problem, I used the guide in the sticky's here and even bought the bridge described in the guide.
Without questioning Dig as I have know he is very knowledgeable but the bridge uses the same 128bit security as my router so I assume this is as secure as my router.

I put my old pc connected via the cross cable to the dreambox and the pc is using a usb wireless connection to the route. I have shared the internet connection on the pc and put the ip address on the dreambox like 192.168.0.4 and is working fine.

Wireless ethernet bridges will support encryption - let's not say they're "not secure" - you just have to set it up correctly.

You need a good connection should you want to record or stream effectively across this wireless connection - G or pre-N/Mimo will help (as well as few walls, etc).

Sorry about the security guys, I am somewhat overdoing this :)

Let us say that 128 bits is good then (for heavens sake) change the password to the box:eek:

U can´t be too secure today

I've just ordered a Belkin wireless gaming adapter (Bridge). It hooks into the ethernet port, and is the same piece of kit you'd use for a slingbox.

Costs £39 delivered.
Will let you know how I get on.

(Also have a Dreambox 500s on the way)

you best let us know how you get on.......because i have just ordered the same thing lol.

waiting for it to arrive in the post now that i have some cash to spend this time of year.

I hear these can sometimes only work with certain ISP's. I've also orfdered one of these wireless digisenders so i can transmit into another room, i'm not sure if i can have 2 scart connections into it with it being a digital one but i'll see when it arrives in next few days.

but i will also let people know how i get on. :)

Well, the Belkin gaming adapter seems to be working ok. Once in it's virtually invisible (other than to the router and DM of course) and you can't log into it directly. It seems pretty secure to me.

i also use belkin gaming adapter and you can log into it directly, belkin have a web interface port, i forget what it is but you can change numerous things on the bridge such as ip address and add a WEP key if needed for it to work.

works a treat but theres meant to be some 64kbit ones available which work better than the belkins.

sorry.....ethernet only dude, i have the same model, no usb interface.

what you need is to buy a wireless ethernet bridge or wireless gaming adapter or something with ethernet interface.

USB stick is no good, you connect box to pc via CAT 5e/6 LAN ethernet cable but even so your better off connecting the box directly to your router/modem using ethernet cable

1st post, so hello :)

I would like to point out these work OK for keys and connectivety

They are not fast enough for VLC front end:mad:
By running a long ethernet cable across the floor VLC FE worked fine
But would not work through powerline adapters

Apparently there are some 200mb models available
Or I could re-wire my house.....
