Hi All

I'm looking at getting a dreambox and pairing it with a Raven 90cm disk with 4LNB's.

Can anyone please clarify for me the following:-

1. Does the Dreambox support current HDTV and the upcoming HDTV standards?

2. Which Dreambox would be the best one to get? (I'd like PVR and network saving if possible).

3. Would the best way to connect the dreambox be a Diseq type setup or a multiport distribution system? (I may want to add further boxes later).

4. I understand the dreambox supports s*y cards. I have a s*y card that is valid but no longer enabled for any channels other then freeview. Which is the best emulator to use and which channels can I expect to be able to get? (The card is paired to my current S*y+ box).

5. Should I be looking at any other boxes instead of the dreambox?

Thanks in advance.

P

1. Dunno. Mine has no HDTV connections.

2. They all do network recording. How much do you want to spend?

3. Get a motor.

4. Read the Idiot's Guide and do a search on "$ky" - there is a big thread on this. You can use more than one emu.

5. Triple Dragon and Reelook are mentioned by some Dreambox owners.

the current dreamboxes are not setup for HDTV, there is a new box promised sometime this year (DM8000) which is supposed to support it, but dont hold your breath for it dream are not even commenting on its existence just yet !

Thanks Guys

I can't get a motor due to dish positioning (also I'll prob end up with multiple boxes and this way I can watch stuff on all the LNB's).

I'd prefer no HDMI connection as my Panny 50" (1300?x768) doesn't have one that's why I want to network save then play stuff through my Mini ITX HTPC setup.

Looks like I'll be waiting for the 8000 then.....or is there any other box currently with the DB's flexibility and HD support?

TIA.

P

If the original (picture) signal is HD quality it'll make no difference anyway?

But, apart from the tv which must supply the required number of lines why should the software not supply the goods? Why do you need a specific connector to access HD? Can it be an artificial entrance fee?

Because HD uses an HDMI connector? In the same way that component is better quality than a regular scart cable (sort of).

And the price of 30 Euro for the connector is a bit steep.

Well, some people using the DM7025 say they can get HD content from euro 1080 and astra hd,so I have to take this models can handle high resolution feeds.
And can record them and play too.
Only those people with one of those could know.

A bit late to this thread I know, but the Dreambox 7xxx will not support HD. The receiver has to be an HD one. The infamous dreambox 8000 will be the one to get if it ever is released.

You DO NOT need HDMI to view HD content, but it is the best interface as it is 'Digital'. There may also be limitations impossed on non-HMDI connections i.e. there was talk of blocking HD signals over non-HDMI connections (i.e. over component you would not be able to view some HD content as tehy are worried about Pirating).

There are some HD Satellite boxes out there though.

Ohh forgot to add the the original spec for the Dreambox 8000 does not include an HDMI connector, but I guess if/when they finally release this then one will be included.

If you can't wait for the Dreambox 8000, then take a look at the AB IPBox 9000HD, which should be available at the end of the month. I have already ordered and paid for mine, and have promised several people that I'll report back when I get it.

Ok, DM7025 owner here. It does not receive HD content (full stop).

As for the DM8000, Dream Multimedia have had the HDCP license denied for the 8000 , in essence, it will never be released !

Read around a little you will find confirmation on this....
