Other than the hardisk & display, are there any significant differences between the 5620 and the 7000? I've seen the 5620 on a german site for 189euros and I'm very tempted to go for this rather than another pc card.

Duncan :)

Thats exactly the question I was about to ask. :)

Also where are people buying Dreambox's from?
I don't speak German so it looks like I might struggle buying from a German web site. What payment method do you use? Credit card looks best I think.

Has anyone bought boxes from e-bay sellers in Germany or Italy?

hm-sat.de will also offer C.O.D. via UPS, I've used them twice now and found them to be excellent.

Rolf how much was shipping? Also when you input your address, I only see space for street name, postcode and town (ort?) My address follows the form: street, village, town... where would be best to put the village name? I guess it won't really matter, but I get sick of having packages delivered to the wrong address :)

Duncan, Have you decided to go for the 5620 then?
I do fancy the 7000 but can't decide if it's worth the extra just for the hard drive. I have a PC running 24/7 that I could use for recording I think.

What other benefits does the hard drive give please?

I've got the hard drive version 120Gig, cost £305 delivered C.O.D. (by mistake) :) I really like the pause live TV ability, very seldom record then watch, but often go to get a beer. :)

I believe that there are more images available for the 7000s, but not really sure what the real differences are otherwise.

I'm pretty much set on the 5620, however the price difference between it and the 7000 gets me thinking that there must be some other differences. I'll look into it some more before deciding though :)

The obvious differences would appear to be the lack of USB and flash memory card slot.

The support aspect may not be critical, as the price of the cheaper unit will mean that it is likely to become quite popular. :)

The flash memory support seems very useful for testing images if no hard disk is installed. I also like the copy image to hard disk then flash from within the box to reduce flash errors ( and null modem cable usage ). I have a 120gig samsung drive just looking for a home. I think a 7000 would keep to nice and warm on cold lonely winter nights.

Now where is my german - english dictionary (babelfish) so I can understand the order page.

It is fairly straightforward, the only mistake I made on the last one was to order C.O.D..

What I should have done was have the google translator page open at the same time. :)

get the 7000 if u can afford it as the 5620 is the poor mans version.

It is nice to be able to have several images on a flash disk or HD as some are better for recording some better for other things etc.

And as Rolf said the pause it really handy and downloading to the HD b4 flashing is also better.

You can always E-mail them if you make a mistake, I did when I mistakenly ordered the Coship 2300 instead of the 5300 and they replied pretty quickly, they have at least one English speaker there.

PS, don't forget that you will need a straight connected ethernet cable, or crossover if you are connecting direct to the PC.

The surcharge for paying by credit card at HM Sat works out at about the same as or more than COD. I used the credit card as I didn't want to leave a pile of notes for the wife to hand over to the parcel firm! The service is efficient and the box arrived by UPS three working days later.

The Dreambox didn't come with any cables: no SCART lead, no mains lead, so buy them in advance if you need them.

Rather than adding a hard disk later, it might be worth going the whole hog and buying the Dreambox with the hard disk already installed as you are sure the drive will be compatible.

Thanks about the lead Rolf but I am a sad git with 4 cat 5 cables at the back of the TV going to my switch. 1 is used for my Kiss DVD player, 1 for the season interface and 2 spare.

Easysat - I already have a 120Gig samsung going spare so I would like to try it. Most people appear to have no problem with samsung drives so I am hoping it works ok.
