A friend of mine has a 5620, and after some time it would not receive all the possible stations. we suspected the tuner, and it weas sent to the manufacturer for a repair. In the end it was a blown transistor, box is back working again.

Had mine for years, I think since 04

My Orange screened 7000 has refused to power up this morning, maybe its gone on strike?
I removed the lid to have a look I cant see any fuses, and power is getting to the connector on the main board.
As it was an early one I powered the drive from a separate board I took out of an external CDROM drive so its never had much load going through it. Is there any 7000 gurus still out there?

Now like all good Dreamboxers I have a reserve, an old Blue screen one that Noah used to watch channels on whilst wating for the dove to come back yada yada. Yes its old.
But to my horror powered that up and all it does is blank blue screen, tried giving it a nudge through the serial port, but dream up can't connect to it.

Starting to panic.....is this the end

Joe

PS Edit

Just to say it looks like its the power supply on the orange screen one, anyone got any info on replacement parts .

Hi all,
I have never had any problems with my 500s, nor till now have I had any with my 7025, but it is not driving to the sats right now, it is on a motor, at the moment and seems to drive past the sats, as the picture comes up for a while, but the motor keeps driving on past. I have this problem with all Images, I have Barry Allen installed on a CF card. I have done a factory reset, but that has not soled the problem, I hope to beat this and am still working on it.

Regards Wez

Hmmm my friends 5620 has blown up again. We are not sure what it is (will be opened soon) but it smells very burnt inside. Strong suspicion is that the power supply has had it...
Lol I told him to buy that dreambox because it was one of the most reliable ones - mine is still going strong after 5 years - the first 3 years I was giving it a really hard time changing images, plugins, the whole lot. In the last years it has simply been working without a problem, I hardly eve need to do anything to it other than an occasional reboot.

Got the tuner and remote sensor fiex on the 7000s and have now sold it.
Now the tuner on the 7020 has started to give up:cool:

Struggling to find a supplier with one in stock at present but fortunately I now have another 7020 as a back up.

my 500-s is about 3 years old now, it is an original bought from an offer on a link which was mentioned on a hot deals in the uk website.

The box has worked flawlessly really, i do have problems with turning my box on if it was left on a horizontal transponder as the motor just goes crazy (happens on every version of gemini i have tried and never used to do it).

Other than that it still works great, my upgrade will be arriving probably next month in the way of a dreambox 8000 but the 500-s has served me well. The remote is fine, all buttons work and i don't even think that it has a scratch on it.

The box has crashed a few times for reasons i haven't figured out in the past and times when it has crashed because it never liked the channel i flicked onto but that is about all. The box also has also been recorded by me to of been on for 44 days solid without fail, pretty good for something that gathers more dust on the top than most electronics lol.

I wouldn't recommend people to buy a 500-s these days, the chances of more modern boxes crashing are a lot slimmer these days, plus hard drive space is minimal, so it's worth investing me thinks.

I've had 3 600 psu's die and two 7025 psu's die these have all been on different machines. The 600's I now tend to use 3 amp psu's instead of the supplied psu I find that after a while they tend to blow caps in the top corner (destinctive bulge can be seen).

As for the 7025 I've been lucky enough to be able to get them replaced although I do wish there was a circuit diagram to enable me to replace it with a larger psu to stop the strain and the heat generation (mabye a standard pc psu)

But dont get me wrong I would never be with out my dreambox and currenty saving up for a 8000

My 7025 power supply died after about 2 years and also killed the motherboard. But Dream replaced PSU and motherboard for free (only paid for postage) after I pointed them at several posts on the web that showed it was a design fault. They replaced with DM7025+ PSU which, I believe, no longer has the problem. This requires replacing the back panel as well. No problems with DM600, DM7025+ or DM800 yet.

my old 5620 psu caps went!

this was due to being on 24/7, replaced the ones on the main board at same time!

since then its not missed a beat! and is now being used in my bedroom

loads of space in there to keep cool unlike newer models!

wonder if my 800 will even last half the time of this!!!! : o /

hello,
i have had my dm 500 (two of them) for over the past year.
it has been running 24/7 one card 2 boxes.never had a card fail and never had a problem.
had to resink the movie package because there was a change.
my question to all is when the new card was issued 2 years ago did the new card plug in right away?
or did the new card have to go into the old box and then in the dream box?

Hello to all,
i was not able to post something new so i reactivated this.
as of this morning dm 500 boxes stoped working with sky uk cards.
this is using cc cam 2.1.4 . it started with the ESPN package last week. the card is on in a sky box but not with the dream box.
now the dream box will not work at all. its not the box we have used other boxes and its all the same.
they have sent out an electronic bullit.
has anyone experienced the same problem?
have you come up with a sulution?
any one on this that knows more than me let me know.
Thanks to all my friends out there

Sadly the poll part of the thread didn't survive the transition to XenForo. I wonder what the results were?

I don't remember, but it's a pity the polls are gone.

DM500s:
  • The batteries in the remote lasted longer than the remote itself (this one) as one button after another became numb.
  • DISEqC switching has been a problem from the start and has gotten worse. It seems like either lnb power or the 22kHz signal is under-powered as messages gets lost. Today, if it has been powered off, it needs a good half hour warm-up before I can switch channels.
  • The external psu died after ~5 years.

- Remote is mostly OK, a couple of buttons need a firm press
- A few years ago it developed a Darth Vader sound fault which slowly got worse. Eventually traced it down to either the LNB or badly corroded f-connector - maybe causing a partial short. Replacing LNB and f-connector fixed it.
- If the network is enabled but no cable connected, the video likes jumping from composite to RGB mode
- In its first year the video would sometimes end up horizontally misaligned which required a reboot. That problem eventually cleared up by itself.
- It randomly closes ftp connections/file transfers

But other than that :D
