I turned my Dreambox 500 S on from standby this morning and got the following message;

'Warning this has been found to have been cloned, please contact your dealer...'

I have had the Dreambox running like clockwork for bout 2 months now, when I bought the box I made sure it had the holagram sticker on the dreambox and the box it came in

since I got this message this morning this is how the situation is;

I turned the dreambox off and back on -
1. No lights, red or green
2. Nothing at all comes on screen
3. The Internet bridge lights stopped flashing (only 1 green light is on)
4. The box is cold (as a result of no power)
5. Can't access the box via the PC

There was a 4.30 workaround posted on the internet back in February but the files have gone:

1: Flash back to Gemini 4.20 it works just as well and still downloads all the stuff from the blue button panel.

2. Download the file below, unpack it from the archive and FTP it to /var/etc
Note: If you already have an init file in /var/etc you will have to manually edit this file. FTP it to your desktop and add the text from the init you downloaded. Now reboot your dreambox
-<not available any more>

3. Download the file below, unpack it from the archive and FTP it to /var/etc

What does this file thingy do?
The Gemini 4.30 image looks at a thing called the MAC address of the network chip. It's a hardwired identity of your dreambox so to speak. It seems all cloned DM500s have the same MAC address. If the image sees the cloned address you're locked out!

The file actually tells the image to change the MAC address to a different one that is a non cloned one. This means the blue panel MAC check comes up fine and you can use the panel again.. For the inquisitive minded amongst you this is called MAC Spoofing.

From posts on one of the other forums the timebomb is trashing the bootloader, so the only way to recover is to jtag....

If you need to jtag it, you can get a bootloader here:

_http://rapidshare.com/files/87512303/dreamboxbootloader.rar.html

Signal Pin Pin Signal
TDO 1 2 N/C
TDI 3 4 TRST
N/C 5 6 VCCS
TCK 7 8 N/C
TMS 9 10 N/C
HALT 11 12 N/C
N/C 13 14 ***
N/C 15 16 GND
db25 . . decoder
2 --> 100 ohms --> 11 ( Halt)
3 --> 100 ohms --> 9 ( Tms )
4 --> 100 ohms --> 7 ( Tck )
5 --> 100 ohms --> 3 ( Tdi )
11 --> 100 ohms --> 1 ( Tdo )
25 ------------------ 16 ( Ground)

You may also be able to use a CAS2 or CAS3 to jtag it. Use at your own risk.

note that there are people who will do a bootloader thing for not too much money, at least in Germany they offer this service on ebay for a reasonable amount.
