Thought this was very interesting.

It's from the readme in the the latest V5.19 Sly Italia fix version.

I happen to agree with the first part wholeheartedly!

The second bit however, sucks.

What do YOU think?

STICK

It is our firm believe that access to Free-TV is made way to easy for
people at the moment and we are seriously considering disallowing the
distribution of future newcamd releases inside flash images. We have been
following a public policy up until now, because we wanted to provide a free
alternative to the never ending greed of the commerical pirates. But we do
believe however, that we can ask everyone wanting to use our software, to get
out of their TV armchairs and pause the growing of their asses (to quote the
writer of a certain FAQ) long enough to learn how to upload a couple of files
to their boxes via ftp, read the supplied documentation and edit a couple of
keyfiles. Everybody can learn how to do that easily, and we mean EVERYBODY.
We feel that anyone claiming the contrary, is just too lazy to even try.
To sum up, we believe all the emu images and full automatic internet key
downloads at the push of a button are hurting the Free-TV community more then it
serves it by forcing Pay-TV providers to implement stronger countermeasures and
we would ask all image makers out there to rethink their position.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And since we are discussing politics already, some recent news bulletins on
several news services indicated the European Union thinking about forcing Pay-
TV providers to offer their services beyond national borders to anyone who wants
a subscription. We strongly support such a move and we pledge that the emu and
cardsharing facilities in newcamd would be discontinued if Pay-TV providers
would start to offer their services internationally under the same conditions
they offer it to national residents. In particular:

1. same choice and contents of all channel packages (no stripped-down
international subscriptions like Digiturk Euro).
2. same prices as for national customers

It was never the intention of the newcamd Team that people would use it to steal
the services of their national Pay-TV provider (or any other provider they could
officially subscribe to). If and when everyone would be able to officially
subscribe to any Pay-TV package he wants to, under the same conditions as
everyone else and regardless of where he lives, we would feel newcamd becoming
kind of obsolete. The only reason why we make newcamd support emu and card
sharing is to overcome this discrimination by Pay-TV providers to offer official
subscriptions to national residents only.

Don't think that they will stop, because I don't think that the TV without frontiers will become a reality for some time yet.

Yeah, they did release an empty version back at 5.12 or 5.13. I do agree with all of their statements, mainly because I know that the second will take a very long time if ever.

I have a question which I think is somewhat related to this thread. What has changed that made s*y no longer work with the same k*ys, only with newcamd 5.19 and maybe latest scam too.
Has s*y started using functionality which these emulators have not seen before ?, if so then then their point about keys is very valid. I got sick of pushing a button and was interested to know more. So I just started poking around my keys and sseca directories and I think I know how to manipulate the needed files. This is a hobby after all, and I think it should remain so. My fear is that projects like newwcamd could go underground in the future. This is why I am interested in getting involved and I have already started reading Enigma source code.

Couldn't agree more! I have a full build environment set up here, and have "tweaked" enigma a few times. Shouldn't the source for newcamd, etc be available though under GPL?

LOL, yeah I can't see the second condition prevailing anytime soon, especially the price equality bit. Blimey, if our cars cost twice as much as on the European mainland, then I can't see sat subscriptions being any different!

Agree with everything you say about button pushing. If I'm not learning anything, then I'm dying! As long as I'm intellectually able to cope, then bring on the hard sh!t!

I don't pretent to understand nano procesing, but from the decryption routine sequencing, there are two routines that are called. Nano0F processing, and Nano51 processing. Not sure what it looked like before the last Sly tweak, but I think that the nano51 routine was only called once, and after it looked like it was twice, but the first is not required and must be skipped. Nano0F routine is also called twice, plus there is a new 1 byte parameter passed to the 51 routine. So no, no new tricks, no new keys, no new tables available to them.

All the above as reported by Aston on Dudez, and reworded by moi.

Sly appear to be sh@fted, and have nowhere to go. The best they can do is cause minor disruptions ATM. Not saying that it'll stay that way though!

The timing of this little beauty coincided with the restart of the Calcio footy...

Television without frontiers has been promised ( and legislated in Europe ) for years. The European Commision has never managed to fullfill this promise, and will never do so as long as the providers argue over copyright.

Satellite footprints could be changed to stop users receiving signals not intended for that region, the providers choose not to do this as they sell subscription in these regions unofficially (revenue is revenue).

Most users that play with codes, etc, would never subscribe anyway.

It's not as if this hobby is underground, it generates a lot of employment and all purchases are legal and generate tax.

It has grown too big now and will continue to grow as prices drop and equipment becomes more powerful.

When a famous security company in the US challenged anyone to break their security with a $50,000 prize.
They were amazed when MIT produced five different way to break in within days.
They never challenged anyone again.

This is only my opinion feel free to disagree.

Just look at the number of members on Satellite Forums on the Internet.
Add the amount of advertising in Satellite mags for equipment that is NOT Sky compatable.

Next time you drive through a new area check how many large (not mini dishes) there are.

Every time I see a dish I try and work out which Sat it is pointing at, you'll be surprised.

You are making me worried about my sat dish and 4 HQ LNBs guys.O-Ha

They are lying low on the ground in front of my house and very very close to the main road.
Will consider putting higher and safer O-Ha
