I have a very low priced flashable reciever. I do upgrade its software regularly and watch all the hacked channals on Hotbird.

Now

by buying a dreambox

what extra it would give me on Hotbird.

(As I am only interested in Hotbird)

Nothing extra as far as I know. Stick with what you have for the moment.

A) Because we like gadgets and playing with them.

 Because we are probably interested in more than Hotbird.

C) Because my particular one has both ethernet connection and a hard drive for recording.

:)

@ multivision: A few months ago the Dreambox was the best one to have as many sats had stuff that was easily opened by it. Currently there isnt't that much, but we hope this will change. In any case it is not worth getting rid of it now, it is still a good receiver...

I dont know why people love it then.........

I thought I already answered that. It is a bloody good receiver with linux and loads of stuff you can do with it.

If you are happy with the one you got, great. If you don#t like it, also great.

What you have to understand, is that this for many of us is a hobby and the obtaining of extra viewing material is purely a bonus. We understand that for some, the watching of a particular provider is the ultimate goal, so for them, a simple flashable receiver will suffice and that a Dreambox would probably be too much messing around for them.

To us hobbyists though, the Dreambox and similar Linux based units, provide many other facilities, such as card sharing over the net, network streaming, the ability to upload software over a network, etc, etc. There have been quite a few occasions of late though, when the Dreambox and a couple of commercial cards have been the only way to watch some providers and I believe that recently when changes to TPS were made it was one of them.

Horses for courses.:)

best thing about DB is its ability to connect to the net , which opens all types of doors :)

one thing on my mish list would be a better CPU to enable divx etc
