Since we have the lock down in the UK I thought I would fire up the Sat system its a 30 year old Echostar AD-3000IP Viaccess with a 4m dish on a polar mount with a 36 inch jack . This system has not been used in 20 years but it was left on Sirius2_3 which I understand is now Astra 4A .From looking at the list on LyngSat there is allot of free channels but there format is MPEG-4 but the Echostar is only good for MPEG-2 MP does this mean I need to buy a new receiver ? Who makes a good sat system with motorised controler built in that can receive MEPEG-4 . Any thoughts from any one .

Just buy a new box and use the Echo to drive the dish as the new boxes don't drive Polar Mounts .

Thanks Mariust , Yes I was thinking the same but I dont have the space for 2 sat receivers , Dont any one make just a single receiver because your also need to control the jack and the Chaparral Corotor from the Echostar and tune from the other receiver its going to get a bit messy . Do any of you know are there any facebook groups that deal with sat systems as all the ones I have found so far are all based in Asia .

Use a V box on the back of a newer DiSEqC receiver, though only a good one will drive a 4m dish reliably.

Operating the corotor is also going to be awkward without designing some software to run it via a PC or development board (Arduino)

Welcome to the forum subman. If you want the fullest range of channels then yes you will need a newer receiver. As you have seen over the last decade many channels have moved to using transmission formats incompatible with old receivers.

Most receivers dont have the capability of driving heavy duty jacks, but as CH has just posted there are adaptor boxes available

The Titanium ASC1 will easily drive a 4m dish from Diseqc 1.2 commands from a receiver and also correctly operate a corotor, all at the same time. Unfortunately they are not made now.

Many Thanks Guys for all the feed back yes a lot has happen in 30 years but the system was on line before Astra as the main stuff was on 27 west so looks like I need to change out the receiver it would be best to get some thing that does the lot other wise there is going to be cables all over the place but your right there will be problems with the Chaparral Corotor and driving the 36 inch Jack .

Ok while I have all you guys here does any one know if there are any dealers in the UK still that deal with Chaparral as my Corotor has seen better days due to corrosion other wise it means getting it from the states but have you seen the cost of import duty these days is almost the same as the goods .

Looking for also a replacement Ku-Band Quad Multiband LNB so far the only one I have found so far that I have found is a : SMW Ku-Band Quad Multiband LNB (switchable) Q-PLL Type G Size 23 . Many years ago there was a few big dish people in the UK so you could ask them but so far have found nothing of what was around 30 years ago as all the code sites seem to have gone .

To reset my system back up and running again I do have a Sat Look meter problem is the batterys have gone flat found a replacement on Ebay but not sure how you change out the rechargeable battery pack . I did have a look on Youtube but there is nothing about changing over the pack .

Many thanks for all your help its very clear that allot has changed in 30 Years .

Thanks Willian for the update : Does any one know if Titanium ASC1 are available in the UK ? If I am unable to find a suitable receive to work with my Jack and Corotor this maybe the only option I have left .

Hi
Some of these modern receivers are only the size of a cigarette packet .... sticking with you Echostar and adding one of these little things would be my choice .. as i,m not aware of any current receiver that will do all that you want .... i think you will end up with more than 1 box whichever way you do it ...
Still using a "Strong 375" ( almost as old as your Echostar ) to move my 2.4 channel master ... with an invacom quad universal l.n.b fed to various receivers.
Regards .

Hi Nelson yes looking at what is available most modern day receivers are very small . I will have a chat with Echostar and see what they have to say last I heard they were still over in Holland . But you maybe right what main line dealers are there now back in 1990 I used to deal with Micro X its got all the hard ware from that year .All ok on the invacom quad universal l.n.b my quad universal l.n.b is still working but the KU LNB and the Corotor need changing out due to corrosion . The Jack is working fine and the hall effect sensors and magnets are good . As for my Sat Look scope just got to get a replacement battery pack then good to go to set it all up .

Unless you find one on EBay you'll be very lucky to find any dealers selling them now.

Thanks Scopus yes there is nothing on Ebay and have checked on the internet there are a few in the states but any thing coming in from the states your need to pay a extra 25% duty on .There are a few second hand Chaparral Corotors but the duty is almost the same as the goods . I did hope that I might have some luck with Europe but found nothing over there yet .

Ok on setting up the dish with the sat look ,Yes it may not be able to show all the digital stuff but should be ok for setting up on analog , But as far as the receiver goes I will do some checks as its clear its going to be very hard to find any thing in the UK . Are there any facebook groups I wonder who deal with big dish requirements , The polar mount all seems to work ok same with the Jack all the magnets were all changed out so thats all ok .Not tested the motor on the corotor yet but I think I do have spare . I think its a just a case of finding dealers that still stock the stuff . the main thing is the dish is ok that was made by Precision Antennas they closed some time ago . Is there any C / KU band dealers left in the UK I wonder .

... would love to see a picture and a bit more info of the 4mtr dish & mount if you could oblige please.
Also a tad concerned about a modern universal lnbf being overloaded from the sig strength gained from a 4mtr reflector if pointed at some of the higher powered satellites
*Edit - just saw you mentioned the dish is ex Precision, i'm even more interested now :p:D
