Which ones show spice platinum? Also can I receive hotbird with a sky digital dish? Sorry - I really am a total novice.

Yes Blackninja, they will all receive mostly whatever satellite at which you point an appropriately sized dish. The Sky minidish is not big enough for trouble free Hotbird reception, you will ideally need an 80cm or bigger. You can check this out by looking out the http://www.lyngsat.com site.
