OK YOU GOT ME ...
Thinking about getting a DB 7k in one of it's various guises.

BUT - are they as deaf as people say the might be ?
bit of DX'er me and am a bit dubious, (yeah I know a Happy DVB/S aint the most sensitive thing around) but how does it compare frontend wise with some others? . Are all DBs fitted with the same F/E and are there any C/Diags to be had?. Just that the next one will probably be the last for quite sometime, and don't want a DB if a Dragon is more sensitive without having to get the iron out albeit with less support at the moment.

Hi Lancelot

Not having a DB (I've joined the fledgeling TD community) I can't do any comparison tests between them, but the TD's Sharp tuner is certainly sensitive enough to pull in many of the weaker transponders.

I hope to do a few tests myself to compare between my other receivers soon - at the moment I'm just concentrating on setting up the TD. It's a long haul without much info out there at present, but I think it'll turn out to be a very versatile piece of kit.

Not that I'm trying to influence your choice - there's plenty of Dreamers here that might convince you otherwise :)

My two-pence-worth...

The TripleDragon has to be the better box - it has better spec.

I went for the DreamBox influnced by the amount of support.

The tuner may be weaker that others but it gets all the main channels. If you intend to 'feed hunt' or want a specific weak signal, then the Triple Dragon may be the better option.

I think they changed the tuner in the latest models but not sure if it's as good as the one in the Triple Dragon.

:) Keen on feeds myself and, where I live here, in Spain, the DB does NOT have the greatest tuner. I can only compare it to my TM5000D and my faithful Televes 7254, both of which I use for the 'feed hunting' side of the hobby. These have far superior tuners, the 7254 pulling in the weakest frequency.

That said, the Dreambox7000S has been the greatest piece of kit, value wise, that I have ever bought, but NOT in my humble opinion for the guy that is a 'feed hunter'.....different tools for different jobs.

All the best with your decision

I would agree, don't get a Dreambox to feed hunt, you could of course get the Dreambox for regular viewing and one of the cheap FTA blind search receivers for the feeds. :)

Having only had my 7000s since December I would definately now wait for the newer model with a better tuner or get the TD. Its not that it isn't great fun, but the tuner is just dreadful. It won't lock on a signal of less than 60% and even using downloaded settings it pixelates at 59%!
My ancient E'star 3000 locks on at 24%, so I'm really surprised at how bad the DB is.

Cant fault the addons, software and enthusiasm about though, its amazing.

Forget the percentage shown on these receivers, you have to really take a DB and S/N reading to make a valid comparison.

Point taken, but it's still a crap tuner. It does not pull in weak signals, nor even appear to see them.

Oh Bug^er......I thought it would be a bit less controversial than that.
I was playing devils advocate with the lack of sensititvity angle, just to see if there are any dissatified owners because of that.
But now it seems I reqire a bigger antenna to compensate for the lack (alledgedly) of F/E sensitivity.

Brilliant:D

I'm getting one.(of each)

Tnx to all who have taken their time to give input on this.
