Ahh interesting, now I have a Harmony Ultimate, works great on everything... Apart from an E2 box, it gets very laggy or sends the commands too many times... Tried all the settings and delays, only on a E2 box.
How is it on the SX88?

Well if Octagon and Edision would publish the actual specs it would make life easier. Seems this has 128mb ram and Octagon has 256mb.

Ideally if someone has one of these boxes it would be nice to know what it actually is.

No LNB Loop, only went for the Edision as the SX88+ you have to plug wires in 3 different sides so looks messy, but just found out the Edision only has 128mb RAM so cancelled it.

I just tried Das Erste with the german subtitles on and it continued displaying them while it said AEC on the LCD.

On PVR playback it displayed the subtitles but would not display teletext.

I played the recorded file with MPV and that would display both subtitles and teletext. So it does record subtitle and teletext streams.

I can't try RAI 1 HD until it stops raining. But it probably transmits the subtitles as teletext, which might not work on this box. Arte germany has the german teletext subtitles on about page 152 and the french on about 880.

I've just discovered that both boxes see each other's recordings on a USB stick. That's quite useful.

The sun came out for a minute so I tried RAI
It's what they put in the transport stream that matters. The box just records the whole lot.

Das Erste has subtitles encoded as both dvb_subtitle and dvb_teletext. RAI only has dvb_teletext. If you look at the teletext on RAI, the subtitles are supposed to be on 777 and 778 for italian and english.

I can't find anything that will display dvb_teletext subtitles. ffmpeg can theoretically do it but none of my media players bother.
In the old days of CRT TVs with scart the box would put the teletext back into the VBI and the TV would decode it. My Hauppauge DEC3000S did that. But that's not possible with HDMI so now they have to overlay it on the picture.

The upstream software for the NationalChip GX6611 is obviously common to both boxes. I'll be interested to see if people can cross flash the software.
