Ernest Borgnine, versatile Hollywood character actor, has died aged 95.

In a long career usually playing heavies, he will mostly be remembered in films such as The Wild Bunch, The Dirty Dozen and The Poseidon Adventure. He won an Oscar in a very different role as the quiet, lonely man in 1955's Marty.

My choice would have to be Bad Day At Black Rock, getting thrown about by one-armed Spencer Tracy.

Rest in peace Ernie.
