are there any rights packages being negotiated across europe for the coming season, in either the premier league or npower championship?

just wondering what the coverage is likely to be like this coming season?

EPL rights for next season are the same as this season.

I think bidding for the EPL 2013-14 and next 2 seaosns rights is meant to start in May / June this year.

Package details have just been released.

Interesting parts, the 3pm matches part is perhaps as we suspected it would be.

154 matches will be shown live on TV each season from 2013-14 - 16 more than currently broadcast and more than 40% of all top-level matches

The extra 16 live games comes as matches are moved away from Saturday 15:00 kick-off times, due to Europa League involvement or police advice.

No 15:00 kick-offs can be shown live.

"This creates a more attractive and compelling offering for both broadcasters and fans; whilst allowing the continued protection of the Saturday 3pm 'closed window' and minimising further displacement of Premier League fixtures,"

The rights deal including the extra 16 games must be for uk viewers as surely european viewers will still get a 3pm game on a Saturday ?

Yup - this is the UK deal up for grabs. I reckon Al Jaz will get some of the games.

I've read that differently, I reckon that no 3pm matches will be shown live worldwide, but perhaps time shifted.

Surely nobody believes they'll allow the current situation to persist?

Im pretty sure its our rights:

The Premier League has issued an invitation to tender for the domestic UK broadcast rights for the 2013-14 to 2015-16 football seasons.

(first paragraph on the bbc report)

I appreciate that, but you have to read beyond the obvious statement. There is no way they will allow the continued showing of 3pm matches in the UK by outside UK providers.

Interesting, I never knew that 3pm games were never broadcast live in the UK.

You can often find those matches provided by other channels in Europe - sometimes it helps if you follow a particular team and they happen to have a handful of players from that country... then their games will be the ones shown most (in addition to all the "heavyweight" fixtures).

Don't think this will happen in pubs, but for home use if one happens to be a huge fan... why not? The only negative aspect would be the commentary. ;)

Not sure about other countries in Europe, but in Poland Canal+/Cyfra+ are much more likely to show Arsenal live than any other team (unless another BIG game is on at the same time - very unlikely). I'll wait until the season starts and then post how much coverage they are giving to 3pm kick-off games.

Not sure about Everton though, but as always best to see if you have any foreign internationals in the squad and then follow up that lead... I would probably check out Slovakia first due to the Everton goalie (and the fact that I can't think of too many Slovakians in the Premier League).
