Ah but weren't the beams slewed fairly well east?

Sesat1 was just horrible at 16E here, and W2M was weakish.

And now

And the spot beam might be more powerful when centred over the UK compared the widebeam? Anyone know how many transponders can use the spot? Will be interesting to see what they do with regards to the footprints and how it works across Europe.

Like with many newer satellites, frequency plans are hard to find. I do have W2 plans (where 11450...11700 can be steerable), but don't think W2M is the same.
TSE mentions W2M has 32 fixed beam transponders (26 simultaneous), and 6 steerable transponders.

Sadly the frequency plans are now much less available - possibly due to the numerous attempts of rogue governments trying to jam signals in recent years.

Up until 5 or 6 years ago uplink & downlink info was freely available on the operator websites.

Yes, it's a shame we aren't given more info these days. If there are only 6 steerable transponders available then it does seem like they'd have to use some of the wide beams if 28A was to fail/retire, especially if some of the steerable beams are in the Astra frequency range.

I have to say half the fun of these new satellites arriving at 28E is seeing how it'll all work out and who wins and loses with reception.

They could use these for uplink operators wanting spotbeam capacity for their clients (channels) but who can't neccesarily afford SES's rates. This could for example be a cheap way for getting C5HD FTA where they only need bandwidth and not a full transponder to do so. If an uplink operator is prepared to rent a transponder and get enough clients wanting bandwidth on it then it could be a go-er. 12607V was DVB-S2 and went back to DVB-S, I wonder if this was due to power issues and poor C/N once Star Plus HD went on it? This is a good example of a TP which could be utilised for further HD on a spotbeam maybe?? It's all guesswork and we'll have to see.

One thing, I suspect the pan-European beams on E28B won't deliver much and if E28A failed totally then 28B would surely not be able to take the full load as it's on-board power issues would hold this back!

C5HD is owned by Desmonds mature content empire - funds are most definitely not an issue in getting them fta!

I suspect there's a possibility we might see something appear after the Paralympics, either using capacity on 10847V (BBC) or maybe elsewhere? Someone once said Desmond was SES's second best customer, can't see that myself although maybe he's Eutelsat's as that's where all his p0rn channels are!

There are a few reports circulating that some of the Eutelsat 28.5E frequencies seem to be on a higher power today. Cant see much difference here, but if its true this may indicate 28B has been lit up

Maybe worth keeping an eye out overnight to see if there's any more movement, if any, tomorrow as these migrations normally take place overnight.

Looking at a screen grab I did a few months ago of HiTV, 12643 H, SNR was 58%, now it is 70%. Can't say when this has happened though.
