Looking through the following page on Eutelsat's plans for future birds, 8 West B...

http://www.eutelsat.com/en/satellites/future-satellites/launch-schedule/EUTELSAT-8WB.html

...they have a brochure here outlining expected footprints...

http://www.eutelsat.com/files/contributed/news/media_library/brochures/EUTELSAT_SATELLITE_E8WB.pdf

...what catches my eye is a C Band footprint for Europe for two reasons.

(1) It's pretty uncommon these days to see a C-Band footprint nowadays dedicated to Europe from a reasonably "overhead" position, normally they're 'zone' beams on western or eastern sky fringes.

(2) Look at the predicted power levels! :-ohmy:-ohmy:blink::eek:

There are some pretty strong spot-type beams in C band. 11W steerable beam comes to mind, though there's nothing transmitting on there at the moment.

With that much power coming down I wonder if you will actually need a dish - or might we get away with just pointing an lnb/scalar assembly??

I might get away with a permanently mounted lnb / scalar round the back of the house especially if I stick it low down, but I wont get away with another dish - Im already pushing my luck with what Ive got hidden in the garden :D

Ha - I know some people in the centre of the demised 40E satellite's footprint, they COULD receive C band transmissions with just the LNB/feedhorn assembly!
