Its no shock at all. Restricted beams is the future of satellites. Its what the broadcasters hosted on the platforms want. We might not like it as hobbyists wanting to be able to receive everything but we dont pay the bills for running these multi million $$ craft

Of course, these satellites again will have just one beam, covering BOTH Europe and MENA.

Maybe it will crash on the way up - just like Astra 1K did with its highly divisive beam structure...

the big shock hotbird 13 f and 13 g will be two coverage mena and Europe beam
we back to super beam and mena beam only next hotbird ?
You can read this as the areas that are being served by the satellite. Eg. The Eutelsat 5W B hasn't got a specific France beam and an Italy Beam. Though you see "France, Italy, Algeria". Those are the areas where the beams of this satellite are used. Whilst we can think of two beams, one for France, one for Italy, by reading this, there will be one "Transalpine Beam" serving both France and Italy.

So... Same for Hotbird. This theory can be in line with Umair Malik 's reaction #7. The current Hotbird satellites are also shown as Europe and MENA. Though it's only one beam, serving those two aereas.

Just my opinion though... I can be wrong!

Even from a commercial point of view, 13E is not planned to use spotbeams with its current cliente, because granted some paytv providers may not care but there are others who pay for the exact wide coverage they are provided.

I certainly hope thats correct - 13E is one of my favourite slots due to the wide variety of fta stations on it :)
