So after dispatching those, still have 12 left, works out just under a pound to post 2 in small jiffy bag.

I just discovered my new TV has a satellite connection which I did not know so presumably this replaces a female connector and male to male barrel and therefore a reduction in losses from one less joint?

No,this is to convert a much larger N connection (as used on Amateur radio, CB and communication kit to F connection.

These goomers. Probably 50ohm but may be 75ohm impedance.

Please note that if you use the TV satellite tuner, any recordings will be encrypted no doubt and can't be transferred to a PC or backed up.
Hope that I am wrong.

No HB I was just thinking in terms of Freesat as I live at the bottom of and in the shadow of a 500ft hill between myself and Winter Hill and often get reception problems, I could point to Haslingdon transmitter however there are minimal services on it, so knowing I already had a correctly orientated sky dish from a few years ago, I was thinking in terms of the freesat channels only

Ah ok, yes I have seen similar from my days using the PAKNET radio credit card authorisations equipment.

Many thanks, Rolf. They arrived today.

For those wondering what they are used for: A lot of RF test gear uses them and I have a few LNBs that have N instead of Fs. There is an impedance mis-match but the VSWR of satellite kit is poor anyway.

Are they 50ohm or 75ohm :)

Neither probably. They are nominally 75R on the F side and 50 on the N. They have a straight through connection so do not include any matching. Warning: They will destroy 75R female Ns if you plug them in (the 50R pin is larger than the 75).

If you look at most full band plots from Crazyscan etc, you will see ripple in the noise. This is usually caused by a mis-match even when using all 75R connectors and cables. Pro kit uses isolators to minimise mis-matches e.g. Waveguide isolators for Ka band and Ku band

Was wondering what type the N was, all my ham stuff and test equipment is 50ohm. Like you said the pin is larger. I bought some N connectors for Ultraflex 10 coax and they give you 2 types of Pin, 75 and 50ohm. Seems that's the main difference.

It will be the only difference as the impedance is dictated by the ratio of the diameter of the core to the diameter of the shield.
