I find it very useful, have joined several specialist groups and have been reunited with a lot of old friends, the Messenger app is great for sending information, images and documents, also its group chat function is handy for organising events and meets. I also have a Twitter account but stopped using it, as it suffers more from keyboard warriors and trolls than Facebook, just as bad as newsgroups had become.

But the good thing about all of these forms of communication, if you don't like them it's very easy to not use them. :)

A breeding ground for anti-Western, anti-democracy liberal left, Trosky idiots who are unable to smell the coffee,

Twitter stock dives after Israel threatens legal action over pro-terrorism tweets

FB on the other hand is great for family and friends whom it is difficult to visit regularly

Is Twatter to be under similar scrutiny soon ?

Never having done 'social media' , are there any others out there that offer similar 'services' to mankind that should be avoided at all costs ?

So's a telephone... :-rofl2

You cannot display pictures on your average telephone, being 'in touch' is not just about talking to each other

Well sceptics........ all I will say further on the matter is that for some people, myself included, the video link function of FB is great for me my family and my friends, if it does not suit you then fine I too have joined many specialist groups and also found school friends from 50 years ago, living on the opposite side of the planet, perhaps it is just your youthful exuberance that persuades you otherwise

Apparently not.

The company has a standard list of App Events that it provides to every developer that wants to use them. On top of that, developers can also create Custom Events, tailored to their app’s specific needs. In Facebook’s policies for how to use Custom Events, it states that developers shouldn’t use Custom Events to gather and send back sensitive data.
But, that’s what those 11 apps supposedly did, according to the Wall Street Journal's testing.

Another Facebook data row. But who to blame?

Anecdotally from what I hear from the school I work in:

We use fb & twitter feeds to disseminate info about the school. From what I hear the parents use fb as their news source. The kids use twitter or instagram or whatever the new kid on the block is this week.

I run the fb page. I refuse point blank to get involved with twitter as I really cant see the point of it

Removing that many users would make Facebook subscription a negative number.

perhaps it's not a popular platform after all.

Those reports are just to show how much they are 'committed' to fight hate speech, violence, propaganda, etc.

Facebook is adapting quickly and moving their business focus to WhatsApp/more private services, they know people are moving there because is practically impossible to moderate content (end-to-end encryption).
So, they just say to the world leaders they will obey to possible new regulations to stop hate speech, propaganda, blah blaah blah
They might not show it or say it, but they know FB public parts ('news feed') turned into a pile of sh*t, they just don't care about legislation anymore.

Most people will blindly think this is a great achievement, 'how can a murder be streamed live on FB' they say, but in the end it will actually mean nothing and change very little, users will dislike 'censorship' and move to something more 'private', encrypted, little groups (whatsapp style) of people that are connected in between and can disseminate information (fake, hateful or not) very rapidly.

And how do you legislate/moderate that? Take out cryptography? Ban it?
Might as well ban the entire internet! Shut it down, shut it all down! :-doh
Failure of imagination

The impending launch of 'Globalcon' might have something to do with the housecleaning exercise.
