Now I've started feeding the birds, the magpies and crows are forever hanging around - all those little birds in one place I guess.

We have a resident Pheasant that visits to hoover up the husks and other debris that fall to the fround after the garden birds have fed.

I have an idea for Christmas dinner.

seeds nuts and caged fatballs - I'm more concerned with the magpies and crows killing the smaller birds than anything else, but then that's nature I guess

Three Long Tailed Tits on the table right now.

My IP Camera has still not arrived, so you'll just have to imagine it.

The Tits, not the Camera.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Saw a Merlin this morning, just as I was driving along the lane into our Village.

Clearly a bird of prey, but smaller than a Sparrow Hawk.

Flew fast and low, but when it rose to land on the hedgerow could almost be mistaken for a Thrush.

Grabbed my Bird ID book as soon as I came into the house and the pics and description are a perfect match.

All I seem to get is magpies, pigeons, and a little black bird, and some mice.

No sign of the little robin.

But I am town centre.

Yes, the ones I mentioned a couple of Posts up are still with us. There are three fast growing youngsters and the two parents.

Sadly, the cheap IP Camera I bought is utter shite, so still no pics :(

Picked up a couple of used Ixus 105 (the second was an unexpected win with a low bid) on an auction site for £40. 12 mega pixel and bigger lens so better and cheaper than a Pi + Pi cam.
Loaded CHDK (CHDK Wiki) to enable interval timer and USB control and made a remote control that plugs into the camera's USB from an ESP8266 that I can control, over my network, from a browser or from the simple app I made for my phone.
To catch bird shots some on the CHDK site advocate just leaving the camera set to take a picture every second rather than trying to trigger it manually or by motion detection.
As soon as it warms up a bit I'll put it out by the feeder and see what works best..

Just had the chance to count our Long Tailed Tit family and there are, in fact, seven of them.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Put out 4x feeders (2 with seeds & 2 with suet balls) last Friday, but I have yet to see even ONE small bird eating at any of them - must be all the cats (including 2 of ours, + a small garden statue of another!) around here .
