I have just put a Moteq motor on my 90cm Fibo dish, working great.
I changed it to get the advantage of Diseq, I did consider a V box but it's yet another box, more cable and more than the price of a motor.
I used the origional Fibo mounting system, this means that the motor only has to do rotating duties, it does not have to support the dish.
I made an adaptor and sat the motor above the spindle. The Moteq was good for the job because I could take off the angled dish mount, leaving me with a nice stubby spindle to use.
A bit subjective, but I think it is a little quieter than the Fibo motor and certainly no slower. I am considering un-riveting the dish from it's diecast frame and glueing it back on with windscreen adhesive, to deaden the noise, I feel that the dish acts like a loudspeaker horn. I am also looking at ways to counter-balance the dish in its off centre positions, which would reduce motor loading and noise.
So far I am very pleased at the results and I may put one on my 120cm dish, although I don't really use it enough to bother.
As a side result I do have spare Fibo motors if anybody is stuck.

This sounds interesting, can you post a couple of pics of the Fibo+Moteck?

Weather permitting I will take some pics tomorrow and see if I can work out how to post them.
It is on a ground pole at the moment, while I am modding/playing with it, so is quite accessable

Photos as promised, short pause in rain

My next step is to counter-balance the dish, probably with a spring.
As a result of the mods I do now have spare Fibo motors if anybody requires.

nice work m8! Would be interested in how you do the 1.2m as the mount is different to to 90cm.

I havn't looked at the 120cm very closely yet. It is coupled to my EchoStar which drives the origional 36v motor very well. I am also wondering wether I shall keep it or not.
With the DreamBox it meant that I would have to get a V-Box, or similar , yet another box more cables etc.

I think that the 120cm would be easier to convert, it has not got a seperate spindle, it's spindle is part of the diecasting, and it has a nice flat suface to bolt to. You need to be on the centre axis, but that is fairly easy to determine. It does have an M6 retaining bolt from underneath on centre, so could be drilled through the tapped hole to give a centre point for the adaptor.

An adaptor for the motor shaft, similar to the one I have used on the 90cm, with a flat plate welded to it, 60mm x 120mm x 5mm approx. perhaps shaped to match the top of the diecasting (cosmetic) and two bolts through the diecasting.

OK
Put the scissors away and got out the hacksaw, pics attached. Brackets not painted yet, I shall try and get them powder coated. I did make two sets in case Likvid wanted to go that way, so I do have an unused set. :D

Thanks :D

If you decide to mod yours, I do have a spare set of brackets. When making bits and pieces, I usually make a couple of sets in case of accidents along the way. :-ohmy

I missed your post in Nov. That's really neat work m8. Congrats. Better mounting arrangement than you had for the 90. Adding the gusset plate works well.

looks a great mod johnsattuk, did u engineer the parts yourself , i dont have the equipment to do the mod myself (tooo old me ) i have dug out 3 90cm fibo dishes and they are all complete and are all in good condition, they do stand the test of time. i did replace my friends motor on his 1.2 fibo with the smr 1224 which was strait forward mod and its still going strong today .if you have any mods available for sale please let me know. ( i was thinking that the darkmotor may suit the mod as well ,the cable conections having a better angle,

Hi John , I think this is a great mod ,just the ticket to keep the fibo dish on track, On the 1.2mtr dish I fitted a jeager 1224 motor with little modification 10 year ago and is still going strong , the 1224 are hard to come across now,
