Guilty by Suspicion (1991)

13:50 Guilty by Suspicion / Drama / 1991 / Robert De Niro, Annette Bening and George Wendt. Directed by Irwin Winkler.

David Merrill, a successful director, has spent the last couple of years working on movies overseas. He returns right in the middle of the McCarthy era Communist witch-hunt that was sweeping through Hollywood. When first approached by the 'inquisitors' he rebuffs them, not realizing how much influence they have. He soon finds that he can't get work, having been blacklisted for failing to cooperate. However, if he will just tell them what they want to know, he can go back to work.

Calamity Jane (1953)

15:35 Calamity Jane / Film / 1953 / Doris Day, Doris Day and Howard Keel. Directed by David Butler.

Deadwood, Dakota Territory, is largely the abode of men, where Indian scout Calamity Jane is as hard-riding, boastful, and handy with a gun as any; quite an overpowering personality. But the army lieutenant she favors doesn't really appreciate her finer qualities. One of Jane's boasts brings her to Chicago to recruit an actress for the Golden Garter stage. Arrived, the lady in question appears (at first) to be a more feminine rival for the favors of Jane's male friends...including her friendly enemy Wild Bill Hickock.

The Chase (1994)

17:15 The Chase / Thriller / 1994 / Charlie Sheen, Kristy Swanson and Henry Rollins. Directed by Adam Rifkin.

Jack Hammond is sentenced to life in prison, but manages to escape. To get away from the police he takes a girl as hostage and drives off in her car. The girl happens to be the only daughter of one of the richest men in the state. In a while the car chase is being broadcast live on every TV-channel, covering the event from helicopters, the backseat of a police car, the pavement of the highway etc.

-----------------------------------------------------------

The Hunt for Red October (1990)

18:45 The Hunt for Red October / Thriller / 1990 / mixed language / Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin and Scott Glenn. Directed by John McTiernan and John McTiernan.

Sean Connery stars with Alec Baldwin in John McTiernan's blockbuster The Hunt For Red October. Connery plays Marko Ramius, a senior Russian sub captain whose plans to defect are met with strong opposition by his own Soviet navy, and American misconceptions of his intentions. Baldwin plays CIA analyst Jack Ryan, the one man who sees the defection, and must convince most of the American navy he is correct. The action climaxes with an amazing naval battle, but who will win The Hunt for Red October?

Heart Beat (1980)

21:00 Heart Beat / Drama / 1980 / Nick Nolte, Sissy Spacek and John Heard. Directed by John Byrum.

This is another good movie about a fascinating time, place and group of people in Americana that was missed by most people. It was a film that you didn't want to end. I highly recommend it, especially to the younger generation who don't know what cool really is...

The Killing Fields (1984)

22:50 The Killing Fields / Drama / 1984 / mixed language / Sam Waterston, John Malkovich and Julian Sands. Directed by Roland Joffé.

Sydney Schanberg is a New York Times journalist convering the civil war in Cambodia. Tandether with local representative Dith Pran, they cover some of the tragedy and madness of the war. When the Americans forces leave, Dith Pran sends his family with them, but stays behind himself to help Schanberg cover the event. As an American, Schanberg won't have any trouble leaving the country, but the situation is different for Pran; he's a local, and the Khmer Rouge are moving in.
